To think Jeremy Bamber might be innocent

Or that at the very least his conviction wasn’t safe and there needs to be a retrial? Ihe was convicted in 1985 of murdering his adoptive parents, sister and her twin sons at his parents’ farmhouse. It was at first deemed to be murder-suicide by the sister, Sheila Caffell, who was a diagnosed schizophrenic. Bamber had been on full life tarriff ever since and still protesting his innocence. I always assumed he was guilty until I listened to a podcast called Blood Family. There was a lot of evidence the jury didn’t hear, it seems the police mucked up the crime scene, his cousins had a financial motive for framing him and a police officer in the control room apparently took a 999 nonspeaking call from the farmhouse while Bamber was outside with the police, which would indicate someone was still alive at that point.

See this is it, he thought he was being so clever ringing the police to say she was going mad.

They believed him for weeks, BUT when the other evidence started to come out it left him painted into a corner as it was either him or her.

I wonder if hed kept silent and someone else had discovered the murders next morning would they have suspected him sooner?

The reason I vascillated originally was his determination over the years that he was innocent, and the efforts by him and his followers for more appeals.

He may have made it a life's purpose in there now.

I feel so sorry for Colin Caffell, losing his twin 6 year olds in such a way. He has made many sculptures of them over the years.

I think he’s so conceited he probably thinks he is innocent because it was his right to inherit - is just society doesn’t get that in his head so justified by him

as they say “everyone is innocent” in prison

has he had a polygraph test do you know?

or had contact with Louise shorter from formerly rough justice?

Totally agree - if he had never called them I very much doubt he would be in prison now. He did that stupid thing of thinking he was putting them off the scent, but the reverse was true. He probably could have talked his way out of other physical evidence if he had never made that initial call. Giving himself an alibi - or so he thought - absolutely removed that alibi. I listed to the podcast today and I am more convinced than ever that he did it. I thought the contrary 'evidence' presented was incredibly spurious. Glad he slipped up and justice is being done.

Did they mention on podcast he passed polygraph?

I still think he’s guilt btw

Im not sure of much about him after the trial, I do remember he was incredibly arrogant which doesnt make him guilty.

There is no doubt he was and still is a handsome and charismatic individual and seems to have a lot believing him, but that's classic. Ted Bundy had his fans also.

BlackCatFanClub · 13/12/2025 22:38

I haven’t finished it but Colin hasn’t been mentioned at all. Strange as that pulls apart the ‘children going into care’ angle. The parents seem very traditional and pushed her into marriage, you would think they would believe the children should be with their father.

I think his argument of going on trips/yachts to make himself feel better was the worst thing I’ve heard. I’m devastated so I’m off on holiday.

berlinbaby2025 · 13/12/2025 22:39

Alleged from the person who took the call is that Jeremy (not the father as I mistakenly said earlier in the thread) did not make that call “Dad told me Sheila is shooting”. This is the central argument Heidi Blake in her article in the New Yorker.

Oh I know about that call - it’s said that it was silent so someone was probably dieing and trying to get help but couldn’t speak

The one funded by The Daily Mirror? Not admissible in law and also massively debunked as a manner of determining guilt along with bite marks I believe?

So true and Ted Bundy professed his innocence for years. Until two days before his execution. And he only did it to delay the inevitable.

I don't agree with the death penalty at all to be clear (let's show people that killing is wrong by killing people) - but if TB had been sentenced to life in prison without parole he would still be protesting his innocence which I think is very interesting when considering JB. Because if he confessed he wouldn't be released because he's on a whole life tariff; he has nothing to lose by maintaining his innocence. Nothing at all.

Colin left Sheila for another woman when the twins were 5 months old so perhaps there were reasons why that wasn’t thought the ideal solution.

BlackCatFanClub · 13/12/2025 22:58

If someone rang at 6ish and the police entered at 7.30am wouldn’t they have been next to a phone and the body would still be warm? They would be in a different state to the other bodies if they had died hours before.

Louise Shorter runs Inside Justice: https://www.insidejustice.co.uk

Rough Justice was the name of the TV programme. (I thought it was very good - I also think Glyn Razzell is guilty as sin. As do his kids and his wife's family.)

Nothing to say on their website that they support him although he's mentioned in a blog from 2023.

Yeah I know - think it was called conviction

didn’t she withdraw from
glyn razell as he refused lie detector after he agreed so she ended the work

Arlanymor · 13/12/2025 23:03

Maddyisqueen · 13/12/2025 22:56

Yes

I don't think so - although I was doing housework at the same time so might have missed little bits with hoover on etc. I plan to listen again in the week when less busy. And it definitely wasn't mentioned in the TNY article.

Yes you're right Conviction. Yes that's what happened - what's mad is when he gets all pissy at her on the phone saying it was sprung on him and he never would have agreed to it... but he was recorded weeks earlier agreeing to it and being taken through the necessary steps as to how it would work - the only thing he didn't know was the date and time. He kept saying: "But there would be no benefit to me" - then why did you agree to have one you idiot?

Yeah it was him Louise shorter turned up with “best” in the world and he said he changed his mind and he’d been told it would not be good idea by lawyers i believe

defo did it if his kids agree - they wouldn’t have seen relationship

That's the one. And his attitude was awful. He had been so polite and deferential leading up to it and then you kind of saw his true colours - would argue his way out of a paper bag even though everything he was saying was demonstrably untrue. From what I remember of the programme his sister believes him though.

He looks psychopathic to me but know you're not supposed to be able to tell just by looks. Same with Ted Bundy. They both ooze arrogance and have that intense stare. They're exactly what I picture a psychopath to look like.

Aworldofmyown · 14/12/2025 08:55

Bamber knows if he can get it to court it will be overturned, the police completely fucked up all of the evidence. The CCRC know if it goes to court it will be overturned, which is why they are doing everything they can to block it.
That man absolutely murdered that whole family, but unfortunately he will eventually be set free.

No, Bundy started confessing to some of his crimes about ten years before his execution.

That's not what the CCRC is about. It's much more likely that they know this will be chucked out again if it gets back to court, because the weight of the undisputed evidence is still so heavily against him.

But Bamber says there’s proof of a second silencer. There is also doubt about the phone call.

I agree, I think it’s possible it could be overturned but it’s not at all clear. His defence would still have to get past the issues of Sheila’s clean hands and undamaged nails, her overpowering Neville Bamber despite being so small, and then things where experts or people who knew her disagree like the effects of her medication and experience with guns.
Even if it could be shown that the police lied and faked evidence to make their case stronger, it doesn’t mean they wouldn’t still have a case.
