To think it's really a witch hunt or an invitation to get verbally obliterated?

Only I've lurked for a while and there are very few genuine enquiries but even those get a verbal roasting. Lots of obvious debate questions that provoke, the personal ones where two threads start against two individuals/groups and then the witch hunt where posters gather together and set upon an individual/group. What is the purpose of AIBU? Why do you post here? Do you like the debate? Is it a laugh? Or is this your let for all the crap in your day?
Hopefully very different from other purposes!!

well yes it is really not the place to post on tghe whole

Herodias · 09/06/2008 19:23

AIBU is a pointless section, really.
Full of tantrums and strops.
Keeps the moaners off the other sections though.

So if one had a 'dimella' where should they post? Or just stick to friends??

Twelvelegs I have to agree totally with you. I've been lurking for a while, then started posting, and I must say that people post questions and before you know it there's a full scale war going on! I do think some people post on here just to get a reaction - and not necessarily an opinion... having said that, I quite enjoy reading and participating on AIBU.

I'll be honest - I love a good argument.

But the real reason I post on AIBU is because you do actually get plain spoken honest answers that your best friend wouldn't tell you but mnetters can because they are anonymous.

I have completely changed my viewpoint on more than one occasion after posting on here and sometimes, if you really are being an arse, you need telling.

But you do need to have a thick hide. One poor lady on the "other subjects" thread was reduced to tears yesterday or today (can't remember exactly) and I wouldn't expect a pasting on other threads but I would on this one.

Many of the listed subjects provide fantastic support though.

oh there's some right bitches on mumsnet. Thankfully you don't know them in real life though.

Tortington · 09/06/2008 19:44

thats what you think!

ReallyTired · 09/06/2008 19:46

Strops and arguements are part of mumsnet. Its all a bit of fun. Provided the posts don't get abusive and are within the terms of mumsnet I don't see the problem.

Tjere are plenty of other internet bullitin boards if you want sensible grown up discussion.

YABVU

And are very rude.

Just kidding - I think some people do use them as an excuse to blow off steam - in particular the
AIBU
... to kill my DP
... to not see my MIL
... to be very angry at [insert name of utility company here]

etc.
