To hate going out when it’s cold

Mashedpotatodaily · 02/12/2025 15:45

At the moment I’m mainly dropping dd quickly at school, forcing myself to take ddog for a walk, wfh, picking Dd up and that’s it
I order shopping in or do the big shop once per week
It never used to bother me and I went out at night in winter etc, now it takes a lot, just love staying in my house

Is this normal? I’m 47, I couldn’t stay in when younger

Does anyone else feel like this?

Yes I hate it too. I just want to hibernate when it’s cold

Everyone wants to hibernate a bit: I'm far less inclined to go out in winter and particularly if its raising heavily, but you have to power through a bit. It's not great for your mental health to never go out. A change of scene, a bit of human contact and fresh air from time to time are really important.

I’d quite happily hibernate through the whole of winter. I hate leaving the house at the best of times but when it’s cold it’s even worse! But I am someone that isn’t comfortable unless it’s over 20 degrees and even then I can walk around in a jumper. I’m not built for living in the UK 😂

When it gets to minus 5 and colder and icy break your neck pavements/roads .
I'd happily hibernate😴

I'm mid 40s
And I HATE being cold
I layer up but I can not get warm
It takes me AGES to get warm when I get in my house
I am really sensitive to the cold.
I avoid going out as much as I can

AtomicBlondeRose · 03/12/2025 11:01

I hate it. I have a good coat, all the warm gear etc etc and I still hate it. Standing outside in the cold in the UK is just miserable to me. Weirdly last Christmas we went to Austria and although it was cold there, it was also dry and with no wind, and I enjoyed it a lot. So it’s more the horrible wind and damp feeling I hate.

Safxxx · 03/12/2025 11:16

I suppose it's more cosy at home ...but once I'm out I do enjoy it, I warm up as I walk fast and generally like walks. I don't do online groceries so I'm always nipping out for top ups. I do like browsing the shops at this time of the year.

I like it. I have a Lucy&Yak fleece which I wear most of the time under my coat and have a big scarf too. If you’re wrapped up well enough, it’s fine.

Teddleshon1 · 03/12/2025 11:22

I’m the opposite, I really struggle with winter as I find most interior spaces so over heated. I set off in an overcoat appropriate for the fact that it is 7c and then go into a shop or restaurant which is heated to a temperature above the UK summer average. I have to wear a short sleeved dress with a warm coat over the top, only way I can cope. I would never wear even a light jumper to a friend’s house for a meal as I always worry their house will be hot.

RedPony1 · 03/12/2025 12:11

Being in the house too much makes me a bit sad so i'm always out!

Meh... It's your life. You have to decide how you want to live it. If you don't want to be out in the cold and you just want to be at home bundled up, that's fine. As long as it's not affecting anyone else in your life.

There's a great big world out there, and it's Cold a good portion of the year, if you voluntarily choose to sequester yourself, your choice. Personally, I love getting out there and going for a walk on a crisp day. The colder the better. You feel so invigorated, and when you come home, you feel so warm and lazy and tired but you feel like you've earned it. It's great.

Some people just hate cold weather. There's nothing unreasonable about it. I hate warm weather.

Catbakingbiscuits · 04/12/2025 06:31

It’s the dark dull days that hit hard.
I like being sociable and doing stuff. But daytime matinee theatre trips please, not night time pubs in the winter. Think it’s an age thing too.
NYE can fuck right off, for example.
