Sister staying with me for a while and felt unwell on Thursday afternoon- flu like symptoms, temperature then really bad cough. She’s had the flu jab so we assume she’s got Covid. She phoned in sick on Friday and spent the day on the sofa Friday, Sat and Sunday and was off on Monday still poorly.

So I’m thinking I’m going to get if too, but with each passing hour I’m hoping I’ve by passed it. I’ve been sharing the same living space as her every day for most days with her bad cough etc…

Whats the odds I’ll still get it do we recon?

I should get an award for the only person to never receive a response on an AIBU thread 😂😂

I think it’s good, because the incubation period is usually around 2-5 days, and you’re past that.

I feel I should say thank you for replying as you’re the only soul that did on AIBU 😂 I hope you’re right 🤞

Maybe it's a strain of something you've already built an immunity for.

Got my fingers crossed for you to stay fighting fit🤞 😁

I also feel I should also make some sort of snarky comment since this is AIBU and you've missed out... Have you considered going NC with your sister for being such a little Typhoid Mary?

MrsPrendergast · 03/12/2025 06:52

You can still get flu, even after having the jab

Ooh Baader–Meinhof phenomenon in action, I only learnt about Typhoid Mary yesterday and here she is again!

OP chances are you’ll be fine. DH and I often have something that the other never catches and we share a bed / kiss on the lips (well it’s a peck if one of us is snotty).

Vivavivavivaviva · 03/12/2025 06:56

Is she sleeping in a spare room, or is she living in your living room? That’s poor form on her part not to squirrel herself away, to avoid you getting it, if she does have a separate bedroom she is staying in.

That's because nobody can possibly know if you've caught it or not!

EleanorReally · 03/12/2025 07:03

i agree, she could have had the flu easily

True but knowing the answer or not doesn’t generally stop must folk on here having an opinion 🥴😂

She has her own bedroom but she figured it’s ’in the house’ anyway so stayed in the living room all day so when I came home I thought what’s the point in her staying in her room now as she’s already coughed and sneezed in every corner of the living room go the whole day 😳

I thought it could be up to a couple of weeks?

My first family member started with it last Monday. Their parent came down with it on Thursday. I'm still clear despite very close contact. It lasts about 10 days, so I guess ant contact during this time could transmit it. Fingers crossed for you!

A month ago dd17 had a nasty cold. During this time I had been sitting in her car with her for several hours a day whilst she was learning to drive.

She couldn't shift it that well and because I help care for my mum who is vulnerable we did a covid test, she was positive. I also tested positive although I had virtually no symptoms other than a slight runny nose.

I did have a nasty flu or covid back in April (didn't test at the time) so maybe I had built up some amount of immunity? Hopefully you have dodged whatever your sister has come down with.

Just do a test?

FartyAnimal · 03/12/2025 09:20

With the strains this year, I’ve read it’s more like 2-5 days. It can be up to 2 weeks, though.
