AIBU to not let DS16 go party after finding him with vodka

I came home from work early only to discover DS16 parading into our house in a hard hat, high vis jacket and a toolbox. DS16 attends sixth form (he isn't in college or doing an apprenticeship) and so I was very confused as to what he was doing with DH's equipment for work. I opened the toolbox and lo and behold there was a bottle of unopened vodka. DS16 had just gone to the corner store dressed up as a worker in order to buy alcohol.

He's going to a party in London soon and so I'm assuming he purchased the alcohol for that. AIBU to not let him go as a punishment?

Thats such a good idea! I can't believe they actually served him and didn't check ID, but you have to applaud the creatively 🤣

BlackForestCake · 01/12/2025 21:59

Sorry OP this is hilarious. So it's true, you can do anything if you're wearing hi vis!

FrodoBiggins · 01/12/2025 22:00

Ha ha what a genius

Justacigarette · 01/12/2025 22:00

hahahah. This is brilliant

scalt · 01/12/2025 22:02

Rumour has it that Banksy’s disguise is a mere hi-vi.

Minniliscious · 01/12/2025 22:02

👏👏👏👏 that boy is going to go far!

itsmeits · 01/12/2025 22:04

10 out 10 miles better than harassing people outside of the shop to go in in this weather.
It's on you.
What money has he used to buy it?
How many are drinking it?
Has he ever done anything like this before?
He knows its Tuesday tomorrow right!

PinkSkies2026 · 01/12/2025 22:04

The ingenuity.

He should not be drinking neat vodka. That is a very bad idea.

Tell him he's taken getting hammered too far. 🔨

Lmnop22 · 01/12/2025 22:07

This is hilarious and creative 😂

I think now is the time to teach him about responsible drinking and knowing your limits. A ban will just push him away but trusting him and teaching him to earn your trust may well bring you closer together.

At the end of the day, what 16 year old didn’t experiment with vodka and we all turned out ok!

JamesClyman · 02/12/2025 12:11

Blimey not another escapade OP.

That lad of yours is a bit of a scallywag isn't he!

ThatLimeNewt · 02/12/2025 17:29

thanks all

You gotta give him 10/10 for that one.

bridgetreilly · 02/12/2025 17:37

Absolutely. Refusing to let him go to the party is an entirely appropriate consequence.

Manchestermummax3 · 02/12/2025 17:38

Genius!!

herbalteabag · 02/12/2025 17:41

That's very funny! I wouldn't try to stop him going to the party, it's what 16 year olds do - go to parties and drink.

jackstini · 02/12/2025 17:42

Had you discussed what alcohol he was taking to the party and how it was going to be bought?

It depends if he’s gone against something you already agreed, or he was just ingenious in sorting out what he wanted to take!

Very normal for that age, but needs a chat on responsible drinking and what plans he has if he/others drink too much etc.

ItsFridayIminLoveJS · 02/12/2025 17:44

Love it..🤣🤣🤣
Bob the builder strikes again.
Let him go.
I used to buy those vodka drinks for mine at 16 to take to parties .
If you hadn't found him.. you wouldn't know any difference .

Cece92 · 02/12/2025 17:46

Sorry but I actually have laughed out loud 10/10 for effort

Reminds me of the inbetweeners scene where he's trying to get served 😂😂
