And said person has put their Christmas up.

Hmm in two minds.

If they're obviously halloween...perhaps disposable ones, like happy halloween garlands and fake cobwebs...I might wonder why they couldn't be bothered to take them down at least when they put the christmas ones up...

If they're more autumnal or just spooky (like ghost or pumpkin figurines), I'd just assume they liked them...

It’s rotting pumpkins on their outdoor steps

Could not care less.

Maybe you just like living in filth then?

Rotting pumpkins on the doorstep - lazy
Halloween light or wreath - maybe they are just waiting to swap them over with Christmas decoration.
We have a house that leaves most of their Christmas lights up all year around, they just don't turn them on. They do throw away the real wreath and put the inflatable decorations away

This is mn.....lots of people claim to change their bedding every few months, never move the sofa to clean, use towels for a year before washing etc. They claim it gives them robust health and more time to 'make memories' with the kids. Personally I would consider the way some people choose to live as squalor but if you dare mention it you are accused of being a clean freak.
Rotting pumpkins on the door step is lazy and disgusting, especially when you think how many times the people living there must walk past them!
Personally I would just take a bin bag out, scoop them up and bin them!

RoamingToaster · 01/12/2025 13:03

I agree OP. It’s not good to have rotten pumpkins. I’d find it weird if they went to the effort of putting up Xmas decorations but didn’t take Halloween ones down. At least you know they’re ok.

Btowngirl · 01/12/2025 13:06

I literally just took our happy Halloween window stickers off over the weekend to do my Christmas drawings 😂 I wouldn’t say I am lazy though, more fighting for my life to get everything done everyday!

reversingdumptruckwithnotyreson · 01/12/2025 13:46

My Halloween decorations stay up until I take them down to put the Christmas ones. It’s not out of laziness, I enjoy having them up and it’s no one’s business.

Lookingforthejoy · 01/12/2025 13:47

That would be me. I’m waiting until it isn’t raining so I can put my pumpkins in the garden bin.

TheWytch · 01/12/2025 13:49

Don't really care.

They are better than some of the tacky inflatable monstrosities that have gone up overnight in my village. A giant inflatable tree with a Father Christmas half way up being debagged by an inflatable dog pulling his trousers down being perhaps the worst so far.

Kitmanic · 01/12/2025 13:51

Have they left the rotting pumpkins to benefit the wildlife.

Misguided if they have but I think some people belive they're doing good.

Sartre · 01/12/2025 14:58

The rotting pumpkins are grim, especially when they’re on display on someone’s fence or something. I’ve seen this a couple of times in the past week and I do think it’s a bit lazy. It’s not even a minute job to put it in a bag and in the bin. Putting decor away is annoying but again, 5-10 min job. I guess people just look past it.

Mine aren’t carved so they’re not rotting.

CreepingCrone · 01/12/2025 17:28

I'm spooky so mine never go away. I don't have Halloween decor, just decor 👻🧙🏼‍♀️🧹🌙🦇☠️🪦

Because the mouldy pumpkin display is right by me?

People really don’t mind rotting vegetables … ok

You didn’t state it was rotting pumpkins though did you? You also didn’t state inside decs or outside decs in your first post. ‘Out’ can mean you’ve just got the decorations out still (both indoors or outdoors). We talk of getting the Xmas decorations ‘out’ here to mean the indoor ones out of the box and on display. If you had been specific you’d have got different responses.

‘Halloween decorations’ would usually include themed lights, maybe some bats and ghosties and themed laterns and candle holders. Not just a load of pumpkins turning to mush left outside.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 02/12/2025 13:30

It’s currently -11 outside, -18 with the wind chill. You go right ahead if it bothers you.

Your original question was a bit misleading - could have just meant some ghost bunting or similar. Who cares in that case. 'Is it inconsiderate to leave rotting vegetables outside the front of your house for 5 weeks?' would be a yes.

nomas · 02/12/2025 13:35

Coloursyrue · 01/12/2025 12:46

Well I should have been more specific.

Have whatever decorations up in your house that you want. It’s none of my business.

I just personally think rotting pumpkins that are now .. 5 weeks old could just be put in a bin maybe.

Edited

You only mentioned rotting vegetables when it became apparent thread was not going to go your way.

LemaxObsessive · 02/12/2025 13:44

Pumpkins are toxic to Hedgehogs who will inevitably appear at night and will inevitably nibble on them. Just appalling

TiredOctopus · 02/12/2025 13:44

Assuming, as you say, they are both fully functioning adults, my first thought is that this is a game of gap chicken.

If that person is dealing with any issues like depression, ADHD etc., ‘just’ doing something like getting rid of the pumpkins (even if rotting) can seem insurmountable. Not saying this is the case here, but in those situations that person is probably already beating themselves up about their ‘laziness’.

realsavagelike · 02/12/2025 14:05

Although if they have managed to put up their Christmas decorations, doesn’t sound like this is the case here

Oh no! I just checked with AI and it looks plausible.

"Yes, pumpkins are bad for hedgehogs because they can cause severe digestive issues like diarrhea and dehydration, which can be fatal"

PS i'm not American.
PPS I don't celebrate Thanksgiving/Halloween
PPPS Don't feed hedghogs milk either. They're lactose intolerant.

WalkDontWalk · 02/12/2025 14:27

We never got round to putting the Halloween decorations up because all the Easter Bunny stuff was still in the way.
