Anti reflux aptimal

I’ve got the Mam bottles and my three week old is suffering reflux. We tried Gaviscon but it’s just making him constipated. Midwife recommended an anti reflux formula which we bought but it’s so thick it won’t go through the teat! Any recommendations please? I’ve seen aptimal recommend a fast flow teat but I wasn’t sure he could have it as it says 4+ months and he’s only four weeks this coming Thursday.

Also my baby is absolutely full of wind all the time, very bloated belly that sticks out and gurgling stomach sounds. Any advice on how we can shift the wind other than the usual techniques. It just seems like nothing is working! He doesn’t really cry with the wind but he’s uncomfortable and throwing himself everywhere trying to strain 😫

Oh I’m so sorry, we had this with one of mine, it’s a nightmare.

It was back in the day, we used a comfor milk, which was thicker. I used the biggest holed teat I could find, and even then, I had to use a hot needle to make it bigger.

Not saying you do that, Christ, I’ve said that before and been ripped to shreds on here.

”That’s very dangerous!”
”Yeah, well so is starving a baby if they can’t get milk out of a bottle, take your pick.”

Reflux is shit for eveyone. The thicker milk didn’t do anything, it just make his sick thicker. And seemed to make him more constipated than the gaviscon.

I had him back in the dark ages where weaning at 16 weeks didn’t get you thrown in jail, so moving on to food helped.

Anyway, been there, so solidarity. It ends. I know that doesn’t help now, but time goes by so fast.

Try the fast flow teats. It’s baby depended (and milk dependent, thicker milk, you need a bigger teat). One of mine was on fast flow from a few weeks, she didn’t get on with any other teats.

Oh and I will say one thing, look into Kendamil milk. It’s different to the others (which are all the same, just marketed to different people/budgets).

It was a life saver for my youngest. No wind, no constipation.

The other things I found helped was having a few layers of sheets and and puppy pads/plastic matress protectors on their matress. So when he got sick, I could just take off a layer. Saved my sanity in the middle of the night. Also sleep suits with zips, so much less faff that poppers when you are changing their sick covered clothes ten times a day!

There was a lot of just holding him upright for an hour after a feed (although a lot of the time, that didn’t help much).

Loads of people recommended baby massage for the wind but honestly, his reflux was so severe that laying him down and circling his legs would just guarantee a projectile vomit.

Perhaps your little one has a CMPA? Maybe try switching to a hypoallergenic formula and see if that helps?
