Initials ASS?

Namehelp31 · 30/11/2025 22:15

Favourite girl name is Anna. Problem is she'd have a double barrelled surname with two S's (think 'Simpson-Smith').

For those with older children with double barrelled surnames, do they tend to get abbreviated to the initials of both surnames or just the first? So at school, would she be Anna S, or Anna S-S?

She will have a middle name but we're aware middle names are rarely used.

Is this a definite no? Do we need to rule out Anna and all other 'A' names?

YABU - you can't do that to a child
YANBU - baby ASS will be fine

I’m a teacher, and in a fair few schools I’ve worked in, our initials were used as the class identity. I can’t even begin to imagine what hilarity would ensue if I was known as ASS Class!! 😳🤦‍♀️

Umm, my initials became ASS when I got married! I generally don’t use my middle name though so it’s not quite the same as your daughter.

Could you use a name like Liliana, so you call her Anna but her initials would be LSS? (For example)

oh, and btw, turns out I was an ass for marrying him, but that’s another story!

Tippexy · 01/12/2025 00:21

So full initials would be ACSS. Just assuming the middle name would usually be dropped and only first name surname initials used.

Do you know how initials work? You don’t just leave out random names 😂 Her initials will be ACSS.

Tillybobbette · 01/12/2025 00:27

Can’t she be CASS? Someone in my family was registered and christened as Helen but always known by an entirely different name.

dizzydizzydizzy · 30/11/2025 22:21

Sorry no, please don't do that.

Can you use a name ending in Anna? Eg Joanna, Suzanna. Alanna

The you could call her Anna. I had a slightly similar dilemma with DC2. DC2 is always known by their NN but tbe official name is a longer version.

How does Alanna solve this specific issue ?! 😂

Cailleachnamara · 01/12/2025 01:02

My late aunt's initials were MAD. She owned them - even had them embossed on a suitcase 😂. Personally I would shy away from ASS though. I also had a work friend whose brother had the initials VD (this was decades ago). Evidently he had a bloody miserably time at school as a result.

JudgeBread · 01/12/2025 01:06

My initials are BJ and my surname is a slang word for penis and neither have ever caused me a problem in my entire life.

People on this website vastly overestimate how much people give a shit about eachother's names.

Is your surname “Joystick”?

Bones101 · 01/12/2025 01:43

Don't give her the double barrell surname. It is a pain in the hole.

GaIadriel · 01/12/2025 01:50

😂

Tryingatleast · 01/12/2025 01:52

Don’t use a b either op, just in case! We had a girl in school that was eg cate o Connor- so coc. When we were signing lab reports she was coc and the teacher would say who’s lr (eg for a Lisa Reynolds) or who’s coc and people would giggle. I felt bad for her

Oops!🤣

Joanna, Suzanna or Hannah work.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/12/2025 09:16

Use Anna as a middle name, but call her by her middle name.

Rachel Anna S-S, known as Anna

Or call her Roseanna, Georgiana, *Francesca (??), Julianna abbreviated to Anna.

*i knew a Francesca known as Annie once. Anna could work.

Zempy · 01/12/2025 09:18

Don’t do this to her…

It could be Johnson?

TheCurious0range · 01/12/2025 09:51

We have a doubled barrelled surname and have found with school bag,PE kit etc where it's encouraged to have initials embroidered to avoid losses, initials are maximum 3 characters so DS has his first initial and surname , no room for middle name. Just stunning to consider

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/12/2025 09:54

I wouldn’t.
My brother’s initials were RC (S) and he was regularly called Arsey at school. I can’t say it really affected him, but he was (is) a reasonably robust character.

Are you Boris Johnson?

Brewde · 01/12/2025 10:38

My brother’s initials are KSS. He got made fun of for having initials that looked like “kiss”. But this was highlighted as he had to wear a PE shirt that had his initials sewn to the front. Little kids can be twats.

BuntyBeaufort · 01/12/2025 12:57

When DS was born I’d picked his name, but realised his initials would be ARS.
So we changed it. It would be so inconsiderate to lumber a child with unfortunate initials.

Medicaladvice · 02/12/2025 06:18

I’m even reading it as ‘ass/arse’ whenever somebody types ASS, so there is your answer I’m afraid!

SheSpeaks · 07/12/2025 11:22

It isn’t just the initials though is it.

Anna S
Ann S
Anna SS
Liliana S

It’s all basically anus, arse and ass related. There is no way to unsee or unhear the big ASS or anus sound/text in the middle of the name whatever combination of Anna and SS you put in there.

There are hundreds of thousands of beautiful name combinations, do not do this one!
