Eh?

Too much stuff

What kind of 'stuff' are you talking about?

Clothes? Televisions? Ornaments? Records? Forks?

How does using something regularly make it too much? If you constantly have a use for something it's not excessive.

I currently have 173 pairs of trainers (down from nearly 250 at the start of the year) - I collect them, so that's not 'too much' for me.

I have two pairs of gloves and only ever wear one. Is that too much?

Lookingforthejoy · 30/11/2025 04:14

When the stuff negatively impacts on their life or the lives of those they live with in some way.

Sneakerhead ?

Or is that offensive ? No idea sorry.

When i saw your post and that you collect trainers, my first though was to head to the net and see if there is a name for a collector.

Sneakerhead. Never knew that. Learn something every day.

Happy collecting :-)

I guess so! Although unlike many, I actually wear all of mine 😅

This is a weird thread!

Slothing · 30/11/2025 06:16

On mumsnet, it seems to be when someone has more than you. 🙄

IceIceSlippyIce · 30/11/2025 06:36

OK, so if I have 2 Christmas bedding sets, 2 winter ones, 2 spring ones, 2 Easter ones, 2 summer ones, 2 autumn ones, a Halloween one, they are all seasonal. I use them every year. Do I have to many??

I think the impacting on others - space wise or money wise is probably a pretty good answer.

OwlReader · 30/11/2025 06:38

Erm, sitting on someone else's hoard here, peering at my own beneath. There's that saying if you haven't used something in the last year or so it should go. But, if you can't get to that something you won't be able to use it or remove it.

I think the point it gets untenable is when you can't function easily in spaces. We haven't been able to use our dining room table for about five years as it's full of crap. When you can't get into bed easily or you use the bath as a cupboard you have gone too far.

I believe my hoard could be sorted through organised storage. No shed or garage here and limited cupboard space, so I am confronted with stuff.

I then tend to try and ignore it, face in phone, headphones on.

My hoard cripples me. And yet I barely have enough underwear. Go figure.

Fedupofwimps · 30/11/2025 07:52

So many sanctimonious one sentence posts about stuff at the moment. Where we buy it, how we use it, believing seasonal items are only used once etc!
I am starting to think certain posters will only be happy if we go back to living like poor victorians and our wash cloth is our face cloth, duster, bum wiper and swaddle for the baby (I may be being a touch dramatic!).

topcat2014 · 30/11/2025 07:55

I have one pair of trainers.. am I the odd one out

ScarlettSunset · 30/11/2025 07:57

I have too much stuff.
But only because I have a tiny house. If I lived in a 'normal sized' house for my area, everything I have would look like barely anything.

BlooomUnleashed · 30/11/2025 08:34

My rule for myself is everything I need, and a little of what I want.

Other people will have different interpretations of what that means for them. But I grew up with a mother with hoarding as a symptom of what ails her. So “stuff” comes with a significant emotional load for me.

I’m by no means a minimalist. But having things, particularly a lot of things, gives me the collywibbles. Other people might get collywibbles from “not enough”, due to their own experiences over a lifetime.

Different strokes for different folks.

Nope. I also have one pair of trainers. And about 50 pairs of boots. I like boots.
