To want to start mounjaro bmi 27?

Midnightsummer · 26/11/2025 20:22

hello,
I’m 33 with a bmi of 27.3 - 5ft5
current weight: 74.3kg (11.7stones)
Goal: 58kg (9 stones)

I’m sick and tired of everyone telling me I don’t “need” mounjaro, this is because I happen to have slim legs and arms but I carry what seems to be ALL of my fat weight across my tummy where all my important organs are. I look about 5 months pregnant and because my arms and legs are small I always look pregnant and people always ask me if I am. I am a uk size 14 but that size doesn’t fit well around my stomach and have to sometimes size up to a 16. My chest is ok I am a 38C bra.

I’ve had 4 kids but that was 6 years ago. I’ve dieted, I am moderate active ( I work 12 hour shifts full time so constantly active) but have not managed to loose weight and get into a healthy bmi but importantly reduced the belly fat. I eat generally ok, but I could do with less biscuits and tea 😩

I have been pre-approved by asda as I also recently been diagnosed with highBP (hypertension)

I want to know did anyone start mounjaro in the lower end of their bmi? How did it go for you? Any regrets?

I didn’t have a high enough BMI, but I was definitely fat. I wouldn’t have qualified as I have no other health issues, so I tweaked my stats.

Anyway, I have no regrets whatsoever and also had no side effects at all. I’m now back down to the weight I was pre pandemic (that’s when I porked out). It’s fantastic.

Poshcheddar · 26/11/2025 20:28

Hi, I was almost the same weight when I started 3 months ago, 76kg, with the same goal weight. Also "blessed" with slim legs and arms, but all my excess weight accumulates on my front, i.e. stomach and huge boobs. Now down to 64, and feeling great!

I would say absolutely go for it.

Spuriousdealings · 26/11/2025 20:32

Just be mindful of what you want to do when you reach goal, getting there is easy with mounjaro, staying there isn't, so you will be euphoric in those first few weeks and then you'll hit target, and unless you can afford to stay on it, you'll struggle massively to maintain without, that's my experience anyway.

Midnightsummer · 26/11/2025 20:33

@Poshcheddar thats amazing well done! And yes you sound very similar body shapes with mine. Can I please ask if whether your front went down along with the the weight? I’m terrified of loosing more from the legs and arms, getting slimmer than they already are, and then have a slow loss on the stomach 😅

@WACCU that sounds great, very pleased for you!

I think you can just order them online anyway and lie to say your BMI is higher.

Emptyvase · 26/11/2025 20:39

I did it at around the same BMI (half a stone lighter, but significantly shorter). It works exactly the same way regardless of your starting weight or how much you have to lose. If you can afford it, and would benefit from suppressing the urge to eat too much too often (emotionally, or as a distraction, or whatever), I'd say go for it. I spent three months on it, mostly on 2.5mg at the start and end, with a few side effects in the middle and my BMI is now 21. Totally worth it as I feel better physically and am far more motivated to sustain where I am now that it doesn't seem insurmountable or pointless trying.

Thistleton · 26/11/2025 20:44

I started at BMI 27, now BMI 23.7. I am on meds for high BP and cholesterol, with a family history of cardiovascular disease so really wanted to get some weight off and lower my risk. I also have hypothyroidism and it’s really difficult to lose weight.

I would say if you qualify, go for it. I’m so glad I did.

SilenceInside · 26/11/2025 20:45

I’m not in your position, having been massively morbidly obese when I started Mounjaro, but I am now a touch lighter than you and about the same height. But, I don’t think it’s unreasonable at all to take a medication that you meet the criteria for to treat a weight related health issue.

If you can get on top of the weight and the BP and keep the weight off and the BP down, then that’s a great result for you.

I would say that you will need a plan for when you reach your target weight which could be quite soon. Will you continue with a low dose, or will you try to maintain without Mounjaro?

Salvadoridory · 26/11/2025 20:47

I did it with Ozempic and have a maintenance dose of 33 clicks a week and it works perfectly. I stopped losing at 61kg though, 58 which is my ideal weight would be skeletal and my face is already a bit gaunt and needs fillers.

Your body your choice

Dont do this op its dangerous.

SilenceInside · 26/11/2025 21:03

The OP doesn't have to lie, she meets the criteria.

I lost weight all over, but the stomach and breasts were the most dramatic. I actually have a waist again lol Haven't seen it since before I got pregnant 9 years ago 😅 All my bras feel loose in the cups now as well.

letshavetea · 26/11/2025 21:11

I would say go for it. I started a year ago with a bmi of 27.8 and a weight of 12 stone 10. I’m 5 foot 7 and my current bmi is 24.2. I’m currently on 10mg and would ideally like to loose another 7lbs. I currently weight 11 stone 1lb.
I have hypothyroidism and take sertraline which are the reasons why losing weight was so hard for me.
Even with mounjaro it’s taken a long time, but I’m fine with that. I’m planning to stay on it for maintenance, but at as low a dose as possible.
Good luck.

MJMarch25 · 26/11/2025 21:16

I also met the criteria with my BMi 27/ prediabetes. I was same weight as you and am same height.
I started in March and was at goal by Sept (55kg)
Also apple shaped. My BMi is now 20 but my waist is still 31.5 inches!! Sadly still got a flabby belly but will just have to live with that! I don’t want to drop my weight my lower.
Running lots (which I have always done) and now also going to the gym and doing weights- hoping to tone my core a bit.
interestingly, on the ‘new obesity’ calculator that I have seen, because of my waist measurement it did class me as obese, despite BMi on standard scale being 27
Delighted I opted for this route, and planning to stay I forever (finances allowing) as I have lost and gained the weight at least five times in my life. I never keep it off for more than a year.

I never needed to go above 5mg,I am currently on 2.5 mg and have not have any side effects.
i did count my calories throughout (as I always have done when dieting before) and hit my protein/ fibre goals too.

Hi guys, thank you so much for your advice and input! Just an update…

I did end up ordering Mounjaro and I’m now coming to the end of Week 4 on 2.5mg. Honestly, I’m so glad I went for it. The difference in just four weeks has been phenomenal, not just on the scale but in myself.

I started at 74kg / 163 lbs, and I’m now 71kg / 156lbs.

Here are my weekly drops so far 👇🏾

  • Week 1: -1 lb
  • Week 2: -1 lb
  • Week 3: -2 lbs
  • Week 4 so far: -2 lbs (could be a little more by the week’s end)

So roughly 3kg / 6 lbs down in just under 4 weeks.

I know I’m starting from a lower BMI range than many, but I seem to be responding well, the appetite suppression and food noise really kicked in this week. Weight loss is slow but I prefer it that way.

honestly, it’s not just the weight:

  • I’m eating cleaner without forcing it
  • drinking water regularly
  • skin looks brighter
  • posture feels better
  • stomach noticeably flatter
  • mindset + self-love improving massively

what was shocking was how much water my face lost and how it has slimmed down! I’ve been doing core strength training just about 10 mins a day as well as walking and it’s done wonders for my posture as well as general wellbeing! I feel like taking Mounjaro was the push I needed to finally treat my body with care instead of constantly fighting hunger and cravings.

SW: 163 lbs / 73.9kg
CW: 156 lbs / 71kg
GW: 136 lbs / 62kg

A long way to go, but for the first time in ages…it feels possible. I’m glad I didn’t listen to those who said not to get it because ‘you don’t need it’. Good luck to you all on your journeys too and drop an update every now and then xx
