Inspiration for an NYE family getaway

I’d really like to go somewhere for New Year this year. Due to work we’d probably have to actually travel NYE afternoon and come back on the 2nd but it would be lovely to rent a nice air b&b or lodge and just wake up somewhere nice on New Year’s Day where we can just walk or be in pleasant surroundings. Usually it’s a non event with one or all of us falling asleep on the sofa and doing nothing of any interest.

We are a family of 4 including a pre schooler and an 11 year old plus a dog! Ideally looking for somewhere with nice walks, scenery and maybe a little bit going on for the kids. We are midlands so no further than a couple of hours drive.

I’ve never been away at this time of year so any ideas or nice experiences you’ve had would be really welcome.

You've probably picked a bad day to ask this because people are too busy getting angry about the budget.

From the Midlands, I'd go to the Peak District but the weather could be awful. Or a bit further to the Norfolk coast? You need to move quickly. I just booked a cottage by the coast for New Year and options were very limited.

Malvern Hills, Peak District,

North Yorkshire? Robin hoods bay (probs all booked up) but look nearby-Staithes is lovely-and surrounding area.

Or if not too far, Suffolk. We went to Aldeburgh, quite last minute for NYE two years ago and loved it-midnight fireworks on the beach!

Final suggestion-Rutland. Some beautiful villages with a very Cotswolds vibe, minus the price tag. Rutland water for walks…And Stamford which is stunning, and full of restaurants and nice shops, and very festive looking.

Thanks for the suggestions. Also like the idea of just going to a nice hotel with the kids, somewhere with entertainment and a pool and just having a change of scenery. Not sure what’s available for kids though.

Travel section OP, usually great advice in there.
