do you rewash laundry if cat lies on it?

I have a "helpful" teen who keeps getting washing out of tumble dryer (of course only when there's something in there she wants!). She takes hers and leaves the rest in the laundry basket, which the cat then colonises. (If I do it I put it away immediately as know she has a fondness for clean clothes!).
Anyway, despite telling teen over and over again what happens, she keeps doing it and cat keeps going on clean laundry and I keep re washing it.
But do I really need to? Very tempted to just put it away. She doesn't shed too badly, so it's not covered in hair.
AIBU to put away laundry and not re wash it?

Of course not! Give it a good shake and put it away.

cinquanta · 26/11/2025 11:46

No, unless it’s obviously dirty.

Overtheatlantic · 26/11/2025 11:47

I wouldn’t rewash it but then I sleep with my cheek on the cat’s backside so we’re fairly integrated.

Spanador · 26/11/2025 11:47

Isn't that effectively the same as washing it every time the cat sat on your lap? Which I assume you don't do...

snoopythebeagle · 26/11/2025 11:47

Why on earth would you? Do you get changed and wash your outfit every time she sits on you? Confused

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 26/11/2025 11:48

YANBU. Even if the cat shed enough to build a whole new cat, just lint roll it and put it away.

EmpressaurusKitty · 26/11/2025 11:48

Not unless she’s actually thrown up on it.

MinPinSins · 26/11/2025 11:48

If you touched the cat would you take off your clothes and wash them? If not, why are you doing this?

TheSwarm · 26/11/2025 11:48

Of course not. What a ridiculous waste of time, energy and water.

FrodoBiggins · 26/11/2025 11:49

No I wouldn't rewash. That is mad to do

HeadyLamarr · 26/11/2025 11:50

Only if there are muddy paw prints. A little bit of cat fur is neither here nor there.

Shedmistress · 26/11/2025 11:51

If I washed every thing my cat sat on, which he does every time I move anything in the house at all, I'd never get out of the laundry room.

AnnaMagnani · 26/11/2025 11:52

Why on earth would you rewash it?

My cat sleeps on a shelf in my wardrobe, I'd never get to wear anything if I had to rewash it all the time.

K0OLA1D · 26/11/2025 11:52

Never even occurred to me to wash something the cat lies on

Bimblebombles · 26/11/2025 11:53

I'd only wash if the cat had got muddy paws on it. My cat has a habit of rolling in from a night on the tiles covered in sticks and leaves, and lies on fresh bedding which irks me but I have started putting throws on the beds now.

Wouldn't think to wash clothes he had merely touched.

randomchap · 26/11/2025 11:53

You'll have cat hair on all your clothes. I know I do. Unless the cat is massively shedding or leaving muddy prints behind then no need to rewash

Crunchymum · 26/11/2025 11:54

Put your DD's away, but wash your own (if it bothers you)

I have white cats so anything they so much as glide past ends up covered in white fur.

My main question is WHY your DD is not understanding she needs to put all the washing away? What is going on there?

Scampuss · 26/11/2025 11:54

I wash and dry everything inside out so any hairs would be on the inside! But if it was very hairy I'd put it back in the dryer on low for 10 minutes to catch the hairs.

PullingOutHair123 · 26/11/2025 11:55

Your energy and water bills will be very grateful if you don't rewash clean clothes.

ImFineItsAllFine · 26/11/2025 11:57

EmpressaurusKitty · 26/11/2025 11:48

Not unless she’s actually thrown up on it.

Ah, so not just my cat that likes to barf on a stack of clean washing then?

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 26/11/2025 11:59

Overtheatlantic · 26/11/2025 11:47

I wouldn’t rewash it but then I sleep with my cheek on the cat’s backside so we’re fairly integrated.

@Overtheatlantic 🤢 That's a dangerous game you're playing. Cat farts are the worst

ContinuewithGoogle · 26/11/2025 12:01

Isn't the cat living at home? What difference does it make if the cat comes in the laundry basket or in the room?

EmpressaurusKitty · 26/11/2025 12:03

ImFineItsAllFine · 26/11/2025 11:57

Ah, so not just my cat that likes to barf on a stack of clean washing then?

She’s never actually done that, to be fair. But it’s the only time I would feel the need to rewash something.

EmpressaurusKitty · 26/11/2025 12:04

PullingOutHair123 · 26/11/2025 11:55

Your energy and water bills will be very grateful if you don't rewash clean clothes.

And YABVU to be repeatedly tumble drying them too.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 26/11/2025 12:05

Depends on the cat. Mr Tiddles likes wading through mud, it'd be filthy if he'd been on it. Miss Tiddles is a princess, she doesn't leave dirt behind.
