Just scored all 8 teachers within the first hour, with 5 min breaks after each 2 teachers. Sat waiting and pressed enter on the dot of booking opening time. We’re now Year 10, I’ve honed these skills over many years. The worst was when they used to release after school clubs at midnight in primary … that made these skills stick. My ex just went “oh thanks” when I let him know the times, no idea of the finesse needed. So turning to you lot for validation!!!

I don’t bother with parents’ evening. I don’t really see the point, just tell me how they’re doing on their report card and if there’s a problem, write it in the bloody planner!

Because lots of teachers wont wrote it down or don't have time esp in secondary. However can raise issues at parents evening.

Ralphiethedog · 25/11/2025 20:15

Note to parents who haven’t used an automated booking system - treat it like buying concert tickets and be on it the second booking opens, otherwise you’ll be heading to food tech, religious education and nothing else!

Leakingconfidenceandrespect · 25/11/2025 20:23

Well done, I think parents of year 7s need a lesson in these kind of things.
I've also honed my skills particularly having DT as a single parent (online parents evening is a doddle compared to the 3 hours it took me in person first time round).
Mine are in sixth-form now and I have managed next weeks parents evening with 5 min intervals (by sitting waiting for slots to open).

One great thing to come out of Covid was online parents evenings. 5 mins, no over running & cut off when the time's up. Recently had my only face to face meetings at dd2's secondary school & it all went like clockwork, no over running, straight to the point & even saw some teachers early. Booking was breeze too, I let the system do it.

I always remember dd1's English teacher used to go off on a tangent at any given opportunity. She hadca backlog of around 5 parents waiting to speak to her while she was totally oblivious & speaking to one set of parents about her holiday or something like that. It was very entertaining if a bit frustrating

Well done you. Our school gets the kids to book the appointments. It’s horrendous.

Oh god flashbacks to when I started teaching! So out dated can't believe your school is doing that still!!

LlynTegid · 25/11/2025 20:50

I claim a better record.

In either year 10 or 11 (as it is now called), we as pupils had to book the slots. I got them all to be in sequence bar one, where there was a five minutes gap more than the others.

Perhaps children should do them as a lesson in planning, a skill many people do not have.

lemoncrisp · 25/11/2025 21:09

I was always the parent picking up the last slots available and rarely saw the teachers I wanted to. One year we got stuck in snow en route and couldn't even get there. Then in his final year of boarding ds just told us not to bother going and he would go by himself. He did too - and reported back to us!
Dd's school had the kids making the appointments- disaster! Always the last parent to leave. Can't believe she's now a professional master at rostering, admin, travel itineraries, diary planning etc.

IAmKerplunk · 26/11/2025 06:53

Ours is online - bookings are via the school cloud so it does it for you and on the evening the online appointments finish at the allocated time so no problem getting a backlog. I always think parents evening is not the evening to be talking in depth - just where are they? Where should they be? Anything more should have been discussed prior to the parents evening - or not at all! You get yr 7 parents sitting there literally talking about uni for the 11yr old and all their extra curricular activities 🤦🏽‍♀️ creating a delay for the rest of us!
One good thing to come out of covid was online parents evenings

OP I bow to your immense skill, that is definitely medal-worthy.

Thank fuck mine are now grown up! 😀

This is quite possibly the only aspect of parenting I excel in! Is it wrong that a few days after sign up I sit smuggly as the year Group WhatsApp goes mad with people complaining their appointments are hours apart?

No. Perfectly fair. You snooze you lose.

NamelessNancy · 26/11/2025 08:12

You've done well at stage 1 OP but you still have to navigate the event itself so pace yourself. I went to DD's last week and even if I say so myself 'twas a triumph.

Automated booking system activated the second it was launched. One appointment every five minutes over an hour (rest breaks are for the weak). We finished our final appointment to the minute when we were timetabled to. I work it out to be have been my 47th parents evening or thereabouts and now consider myself supreme champion.

applecrumblespider · 26/11/2025 08:20

Our school has gone back to F2F with kids booking slots. Luckily DD has inherited my skills and came home proudly showing off her immaculate system with 5 minutes between each booking.

Tootingbec · 26/11/2025 08:40

Fuck yeah!!!!!

I think my proudest moments have all been related to having done a full day at work, got home in time for after school pick up of 2 kids, fed them etc and then been poised on my laptop at 5.59pm to be fastest finger on after school club bookings and nailing both DC myriad of choices in 90 seconds flat <BOOM>

TheNightingalesStarling · 26/11/2025 08:44

O messed up, thought it was 18.30 not 18.00. But managed a reasonable schedule with mostly 5 min gaps and one 15 min gap.

Then the next day I got an email with new appointments as apparently the HoY wants to see me... no idea why!

FraterculaArctica · 26/11/2025 08:48

A couple local to me had 4 DC in the same school year (a September born only and then July born triplets). They did 55 slots in one evening. I reckon that wins gold.

elliejjtiny · 26/11/2025 09:07

Well done, I am hopeless at this. Dh is like a ninja though so I leave it to him now.

Whichone2024 · 26/11/2025 10:01

Aw my step kids juts get given the schedule which is all over the school and my DH and their mum are running up and down the stairs and corridors all evening trying to make each appointment in time lol

Hankunamatata · 25/11/2025 19:34

My kids school uses school cloud for online PT meetings.
Does auto assign of all the teachers slots for you.
Game changer. Love it rather esp in secondary rather than trudging around the school and no othe parents running over for 20mins

Edited

Yup my sons school does the same. Log on as soon as the booking system opens and say 'all' teachers and when you are free from and it books them all one after the other back to back.

Being online means you don't have the walking around finding the teacher and means no one can run over as it automatically cuts out at the end of the time, and does show the timer so you can see how much time left.
Game changer and I would always prefer this type of appointment so as to avoid the over runs etc.

Rosesarere · 26/11/2025 10:14

Haha I do this. I get the first slot every year
