Sick after heavy meals, is this a post partum thing

I'm a FTM to an almost 15 month old. I'm still breastfeeding (in case relevant). Basically, I didn't really go out much in the first 7-8 months, but now we go on regular date nights every 2 weeks, the odd birthday dinner etc and every time i have a heavy meal (not Christmas type pigging out but a steak or a burger and a couple of drinks, never dessert, but much heavier than homemade food), I end up throwing it ALL up within 2 hours.

And then i spend the next 24 hours nauseous and barely able to eat anything.

These are not hangovers or a case of drinking too much. My toddler is a terrible sleeper and is also up at 6am on the dot. I sometimes drink nothing, i usually have one glass of wine or a cocktail, if I am feeling risky I will have 2.

It's putting a real bummer on the relatively rare nights out! It never happened pre-baby, so AIBU to think it's hormones somehow? Anyone else been through this?

The obvious answer is to stick to light meals but it's not exactly fun.

Sorry pressed yabu by accident. You need to speak to your gp it isn't normal to throw up after eating everytime

GreggWallacesTrousers · 24/11/2025 04:58

See your GP.

Do you get any pain in the upper abdomen? Is this only with fatty meals?

If so, rule out gall bladder issues first.

See the GP soon as there’s potential for complications.

Good luck!

Being sick after a meal isn't normal, though since having my DS, he's 3, I've never been able to eat as much as I used to. Literally halved my portion sizes. Definitely see GP because puking after a meal is quite worrying really 😬

Agree that you should see a doctor, and that it could be your gallbladder. It might not be though. Definitely get checked out!

Friendlyfart · 24/11/2025 07:21

Def not normal. See your GP.

Yes me after DD2 was born. I didn't see the GP as it was covid. For me it was as soon as I lay down to sleep at night. Had to get up & vomit. Is that when it happens to you?

Not normal, probably a good idea to check with doctor
