Christmas tree stinks of damp… advice please

Our tree is artificial. We have had it stored in the insulated shed since January, no visible mold on the box or tree (cardboard box in tact no damp etc) but it stinks of damp. We got it out yesterday morning, I have sprayed it with air freshener, two different kinds, we left the window open all day whilst we went out and it still smells. My main question is it harmful to health as I have a 1 year old, is it best to get rid or can I salvage it?

Time for a new tree.

You say air freshener but have you tried fabreeze? The adverts say you can use it to refresh fabric so it might be more efficient than traditional air freshener.

If it smells it likely has bacteria causing the smell. So you could spray it with anti bacterial spray then febreeze.
But with a child of that age I’d bin it and buy a new one. They’re not expensive and it’s likely worth it for the peace of mind.

Get a new tree

I wouldn't risk a mouldy tree with a tiny one.

I might consider spraying with a disinfectant/ mould killer, then hosing down to rinse off and leaving outside to dry and air out.

Thankyou everyone I’ve binned it and ordered a new one

We gave our tree a bath one year when the dog wee'ed on it 😆 Bit of washing powder, warm water. Then a good rinse with the shower ☺️
