My son has football on Wednesdays at 6. The football lasts an hour so me and my partner go to the pub and share a bottle of wine and chin wag while he plays x

The question is implied, surely, isn't it?

"AIBU to do this?"

Surely thats not the question an adult doesn't need permission to go to the pub

Half a bottle of wine once a week? Get yourself to an AA meeting NOW.

PigeonsandSquirrels · 19/11/2025 13:18

That’s fine… so long as neither of you are driving and he’s old enough to be ok without a parent supervising.

mamagogo1 · 19/11/2025 13:20

I couldn’t drink wine that fast but what is wrong with me? Nothing. We go to the pub every Saturday (unless actually got something on) they have live music on, it’s called having a life.

Bad parenting. You should be standing on the touchline screaming abuse at the kids...

And loudly questioning, using most forthright terms, the impartiality of the unpaid volunteer ref.

VikaOlson · 19/11/2025 13:25

Once a week I usually change all the sheets and towels and do a big wash day.

InterestedDad37 · 19/11/2025 13:26

Can we all join you?

Why do posters have to be straight on at a poster…. making sarcy comments or excessive ??? Its ruining the site.

I think some of the answers are funny. And entertaining.

I think you need to lighten up and try living up to your username. Although it is 2025 now, so perhaps that is not possible.

To the OP @Baconbuttymad congrats - especially if you don't have to drive after.

Ambridgefan · 19/11/2025 13:29

As long as neither of you are driving that's ok if you are driving it's not ok

youalright · 19/11/2025 13:29

Once a week i like to stand in my garden and pretend I'm a carrot 🥕

Same here. Usually on a Friday.

Oh really?! Interesting.... See I like nice clean / new bedding on a Friday night to signal the start of the weekend!

Scandalous

[Let's see if I can get the hang of AIBU]

Do social services know that you are both alcoholics? Aren't you worried that your son will be (rightfully) taken from you and placed into care? And that's before we get onto the cruelty of not standing on the sidelines cheering him on like he must want you to do. Surely you must have seen the signs of him feling depressed?

What about if you get pregnant again? Are you ready to cope with a child with Foetal Alcohol Syndrome?

I think you are both evil for risking your son's life, and the lives of strangers, drink driving every single week.

[not serious, tbc]

5hell · 19/11/2025 14:04

I think it's perfect, and do similar during a different weekly kid's activity 😆

...it's not enough time to go home / go to gym; could maybe go to supermarket etc, but 1h of r+r is ideal IMO
