This morning I went to the toilet, bowel movement. The whole bowl was bright red blood. I’ve just been again for bowel movement and it’s not as loose but still has an amount of blood in it. More than spotting. I’ve had mild stomach cramps and lower back pain. Shall I just wait to see if it goes away?

Btw I had a small amount of spotting when wiping the day before but not much since. And then the whole bowl was bright red this morning.

No you should go immediately.

Devilsmommy · 18/11/2025 16:27

I'd be going as soon as if it was me

puzzled198 · 18/11/2025 16:29

This happened to me a few weeks after giving birth - turned out to be a burst haemorrhoid! My poor DH checked for me. I still went to the doctors though, as better to be safe and check it’s nothing more serious.

Blueuggboots · 18/11/2025 16:29

Absolutely not. You need to be seen. If you feel unwell, dizzy, shaky etc then I would consider A&E.

LapinR0se · 18/11/2025 16:40

get in a taxi and go to A&E now

It's probably just an anal fissure. But do get it checked. I don't think A&E is necessary though, give the GP a ring. How are you now?

Don't be ridiculous.

OP ring your GP and if theyre unavailable try 111 in the first instance.

Justlostmybagel · 18/11/2025 16:56

Bright red is usually less serious. Did it hurt to go? Or wipe? Have you looked back there to see if you have any external hemorrhoids or fissures?

I'd make a GP appt, if you can't see an obvious cause of the bleeding.

MatchaMatchaMatcha · 18/11/2025 16:56

Absolutely you should see a doctor. Boom an urgent GP appointment unless you develop other symptoms which warrant A&E.

It could be nothing or it could be something serious.

CatsorDogsrule · 18/11/2025 16:56

Yes, it's likely a burst haemorrhoid (piles) or a fissure. Do make a GP appointment, or call 111 (if in England) if symptoms worsen before you are seen.

LapinR0se · 18/11/2025 16:57

The link literally says "Go to A&E if the toilet water turns red"

MinieMoo19 · 18/11/2025 17:13

Ok thank you. It hasn’t been sore or itchy or anything

Go to A&E. I don’t want to frighten you but a friend was diagnosed with something very serious when this happened to her. If you aren’t sure about it, call 111 and get some advice.

Meredusoleil · 04/02/2026 22:42

OP, did you get checked out in the end? Can I ask what the outcome was, if so?

Hello, yes it was fine and it hasn’t happened since. Sometimes a small amount of blood can appear more when mixed with urine/water apparently but get checked if you’re worried x
