Car prang - are they being a CF?

Someone reversed into me in a car park at the weekend, only light paint damage but in quite a few places. They said they would be happy to sort outside of insurance. I’ve got some quotes and they have said they are comfortable with the two lowest.

Those quotes are ‘smart repairs’ so not a full repainting a garage would do (my third quote).

Does anyone know if these type of repairs are actually good/will pass any scrutiny when handing the car back at end of contract?

I don’t understand why they would be CF by choosing the cheapest quotes you’ve offered? Why would they choose the most expensive ones?

Please use your insurers... It's there for your protection...

You gave them the option. Of course they would choose the cheapest option. That’s not them being CFers.

Haha I bet they did!

Their insurance should pay to fix your car.

BlueMum16 · 17/11/2025 20:33

You got the quotes so surely you were happy with the work taking place?

Make sure they pay the garage directly and before you take the car in. You don't want them backing out after the work is complete.

If you don't own the car (ie PCP) then 100% go through insurance

From what I have researched, there would still be a potential issue with my premiums in the future so I am happy if they want to cover. But don’t know if this type of repair is suitable.

Are you planning on informing your own insurance company of the incident? You need to do so to cover yourself as there is a question you need to answer on renewal as to whether you have had any accidents, regardless of blame or claim. I would insist that the other party puts it through their insurance, you will not get away with a bodge job upon handing back your car.

kiwiane · 17/11/2025 20:42

You are putting yourself at a disadvantage! Just go through the insurer and ensure your car is fixed properly and is safe to drive. It isn’t up to the other party - you can cha he your mind. Inform the company as soon as you can.

Solenoid · 17/11/2025 20:43

It actually sounds as though you are being a CF if it's not actually your car, just a lease, and you're trying to scam your insurance or whoever you're leasing from...

Unless you own the car outright then not doing the repair properly will come back to bite you.

I also don't understand why you got quotes for a botch job and actively asked the other party whether they'd like to pay thruppence to botch your car or lots of money to fix it properly... Why not just get quotes for a proper repair? Nobody would choose the more expensive option for cosmetic work on a stranger's car if the other party was offering them cheap or expensive as a choice!

sunkissedandwarm · 17/11/2025 20:55

I hope you've also had the car inspected for any hidden damage that might be more significant than just cosmetic.

Not reporting it to your insurers could invalidate your insurance. Go through them.

Nearly50omg · 17/11/2025 21:35

you Have no idea if under the bumper is damaged!! Report to Insurance company and get your car fixed properly!
