To consider changing my cleaner?

1st World Problem

We got a new cleaner 3 weeks ago, she is amazing and does such a great job.

After coming twice, she sent me a text on the weekend to say that she urgently needed £60 to send to her mother overseas and could I please pay her wages in advance. After some deliberating, I decided to send her the money and she proceeded to come to work as usual and to do a super job again.

But then she text me straight after leaving to ask for £30 to top up her oyster card.

This time I said no , explaining I was happy to help her out with her family emergency but that I wasn't happy making advances again. She was fine with this.

But now I am feeling uneasy about continuing to have her work for us as it feels like maybe she's trying to expolit us? Sigh.

On the other hand, she's clearly struggling with cashflows and possibly feels very uncomfortable asking but has no other options.

AIBU if I consider changing to another cleaner?

I’d personally feel really uncomfortable having someone in my house was clearly bad at managing their money and is potentially desperate for money. It’s really unprofessional behaviour and that’s why I choose to use a professional company rather than individual cleaners.

My babysitter did that.
After she did it twice in no time I got a new one. I am not her bank.

Thanks. I feel bad letting her go when she is struggling for money. But it has left a bad feeling being asked to lend her money when I barely know her.

Why can't you keep her if her work is good and just say no & tell her not to ask again?

It’s awful but I would be worried what she might be driven to do if desperate for money regularly, like steal from you.
