To expect husband to get a job in 2026

Husband and I both work freelance, him creatively myself consulting. He’s not getting a lot of freelance work and hates networking, social media and putting himself out there, all requirements of entrepeneurship. I've suggested he gets a Paye job in his creative space, which after freelancing for 15 years he's not keen on.

YANBU. Are you supporting both of you? It’s unsustainable.

Has he picked up more cooking, housework? What is his routine?

I mean, you’re not exactly being U but I don’t think there are many creative jobs just sitting around waiting for 15-year freelancers to just step into, especially if he’s not been doing so well. His portfolio won’t be good enough for a creative director role (and obviously he hasn’t managed anyone directly for 15 years so he’d not be considered for head of studio with management) and he’s too old for a middle-weight: that same insecure new manager isn’t going to want to manage someone with ten years plus experience on them.

He’d be better off retraining or staying where he is and retraining on the side. The impact of AI on the creative industries/plus the recession has been profound on the creative industries and getting back in to employment is really, really tough, let along getting back to the right thing.

Signed, a freelance creative for 15 years…

Don't let him get off with calling his hobby a job. 👍

He's been freelancing for 15 years but is rubbish at it, when did you figure this out? He's an adult and can do what he wants, you don't have to support him though.
