To feel guilty about high online return rate?

I am trying to buy some new kitchen handles. Went to some physical shops last week - Wickes, B&Q, Toolstation, Howdens. ALL of them said order online. So I’ve placed an order of 5x different sets from Amazon. Until I see and feel a handle I won’t know which is the right one. Last time I bought 10 years ago I bought one handle each in different styles from the physical shop before buying the full set after I had put it next to my cabinet. Due to delivery timescales this time I ordered full number of all handles in different styles as the fitter is only here for a few days.

obviously I’m only going to keep one set but this leaves my Amazon account with a high return marker I assume.

This is just a rant because I can’t see any other way if shops don’t have these items in a physical shop.

AIBU to have a high return rate or will this now be the new normal?

I don’t think this is going to financially cripple Jeff Bezos. Don’t worry about it.

I actually work for Amazon (part time) and you won’t be penalised for this. It’s saying the items are damaged or missing too many times that affects your account. (I’m not in that department but I just know )

Is that a thing?!

I think it’s a thing - there was a thread on mumsnet about a clothes shop (ASOS?) who put restrictions on some accounts due to high returns.

@roses2the asos thing is more about people likely wearing the clothes and returning every weekend. I’m sure Jeff Bezos is fine with you returning kitchen handles. You can’t really compare the two.

Why did you order so many from Amazon? Surely if you wanted some from the shops you went to, you'd get them from them like they said? Also if B&Q etc have some you want you can get them ordered to store and if they're not suitable, return them straight to them while you're there.

Because I don't know which ones will look good with my cabinet colour hence why I ordered several different handles.

And the shops didn't have the ones I saw on their website in store. I found similar ones on Amazon and since I know Amazon has good customer service I ordered from there as they deliver direct to my door and I can return from my local post office a 2 min walk away.

Yabu to use Amazon. There are plenty of independent british buisinesses (online or otherwise) you could support.

Yes, but they will be double the price.

Yes exactly this - buying from British businesses who import from China is not supporting British businesses.

When I looked at handles on some of the more expensive websites and did a google reverse image search, nearly all of the handles I found on Ali and Temu for 1/3 the cost!
