To regret quitting my job

2 months ago I left my previous company for a role at an MNC that paid 20% more. I'm 32.

My previous job was in a local company in medium-sized town Germany with ~60 employees, ~40 of whom were core staff that have been there for 5+ years. I was well-regarded by management and made so so many genuine friends across all departments.

Only drawback? There was barely anything to do on the IT side so I ended up doing general admin tasks most of the time and there was no room for growth because it's still very much a local company with low turnover and no expansion intentions on the near horizon.

Spoke to the managing director once and even he said that he knew I was undervalued but the company doesn't have the scale to make use of my talents (was a solutions architect, then due to health issues moved to my previous company where I was a general support of sorts where I helped out in every department, and I've now moved to being a junior cloud support engineer)

Been in my new company for 2 months and I regret quitting. There I had friends who were supportive and content, here I have teammates that are ultra ambitious and just want to grow even at your expense. There it took me 15 mins to get to work, here it's about 45 mins. There everyone mingled with everyone else and it's not uncommon to see the CEO just having lunch with you, here there's a very clear hierarchy and everyone keeps to their band.

To be fair the benefits here are way better, more leave days, better pay (though I probably could've closed the gap to 10% at my previous company), better growth opportunities internally. I'm just not sure if it's worth it.

AIBU to regret quitting?

It depends if you'd be happy doing the same thing on the same level for the rest of your life or if you want to progress your career and earning potential.
Do you stay in touch and socialise with your old work colleagues?

See how it goes early days.

Sounds like the company culture doesn't quite align and you're missing the laid back vibe of your old workplace. I'd give it time and see if you can get used to it. It might get better, and if not, there's no harm looking for something else.

It’s the change in the company culture that makes you feel uncomfortable. Remember the reason that you felt the need to look for another role and see if you can get used to it.

Too early. You’ll probably settle in and build relationships

I can understand why you are feeling regret, but this job doesnćt need to be forever!

One of the reasons you left your previous job was the lack of opportunity for growth - make sure you make the most of the new job to reinforce your skills and use it as a stepping stone to a move somewhere that is a better cultural fit for you.

i moved around lots over a few years and here are my takeaways

you can always look back with rose tinted glasses, but you moved for a reason.

it can take time to find the right fit and sometimes you have to try different places to find out what is and isn’t important to you. each role is a learning curve.

it takes time to settle in, learn the procedures, culture etc. it can feel horrible and uncomfortable at first.

find people you like and nurture those relationships.
