To expect this Vinted seller to pay return postage? And how?

I bought a dress on Vinted on the basis it was just below the knee on the seller who was 5'2.
I'm 5'3 and this dress is ankle length
I raised an issue and she was really narky and said I obviously wanted an argument when I said I didn't want to pay the postage for ther return due to mis-information and it was down to her mistake.
I have photos of the dress's length and of me holding the dress up, showing my ankles.
According to Vinted I either have send it by 21st and pay the postage for the return or the money is taken and I then own the dress.
AIBU?
I have raised an issue with Vinted separately but I think in these cases they are generally rubbish?

You will get nowhere with Vinted with this. If you paid a lot for this dress then send it back. Otherwise, keep it and wear it - may still look nice even if not the length you were expecting or sell it back on.

Greggsit · 15/11/2025 19:59

There isn't a huge difference between above the ankle and below the knee. People of the same height can have differing leg lengths. It's annoying for you, but I don't think you've much of a case

Givenupshopping · 15/11/2025 20:01

Can't you get the dress shortened OP? It might be cheaper than sending it back if you know someone who sews.

Dinosweetpea · 15/11/2025 20:06

Sadly these are the Vinted rules. I was expected to pay return postage once when I was sent the wrong item!

hopefulsocks · 15/11/2025 20:07

Vinted probably won't help you, I had a similar issue and could prove the seller had given wrong information but my only option (after several unhelpful messages back and forth with Vinted) was to pay return postage or not get my money back. Wish Vinted would sort their service out considering the "buyer protection" that is added to every purchase.

SunnyDolly · 15/11/2025 20:08

You’ll get absolutely nowhere with this one OP! Keep it and relist and hopefully you’ll get your £ back.

Growlybear83 · 15/11/2025 20:13

I agree with others - Vinted won’t be very helpful with this. It’s not a very significant difference in length but if it was an expensive dress then pay the £3 or so thst it will cost you to send it back, or if you really like it, then it woukd be a very easy job to turn the hem up yourself.

Ah thanks all

It’s probably easier in future to ask for measurements - she may have totally different proportions to you. Chalk it up to experience and re-sell.

Zempy · 15/11/2025 20:20

Those are the terms and conditions you accept when you buy on Vinted unfortunately. Even if something is significantly not as described, you have to pay the return postage.

AmberSpyware · 15/11/2025 20:21

You’d have been better off asking for her leg length

nothing to suggest the woman has lied

She might have longer legs than you

this is the risk with Vinted and the rules are clear

Yes, people aren’t all the same proportions.

TimeToStopLurking · 15/11/2025 21:33

I'm new to Vinted and already had 3 poor experiences. First parcel was lost and then ended up being retirned to the seller. Second lost altogether, but vinted/courier firm did refund me. Third, the item arrived, wasn't as described and had a hole in it. Vinted said I had to pay return postage, but luckily the seller refunded me without having to send it back. Not sure I'd risk buying anything expensive on there

Neveranynamesleft · 15/11/2025 23:16

Easier to resell on Vinted or Ebay.

LifeOfANoGirl · 15/11/2025 23:23

Vinted are awful and the buyer protection should just be labelled a buyer fee.

I brought some children’s clothing that said it was age 12. When it arrived it was age 10 (photo of label was blurry so couldn’t make out size on it, but it was on listing and in title as Age 12).

Vinted said I had to return postage and seller was so rude! She said it had fitted her child when they were 12 and my son must be fat (he’s very average to being on the small side)!!! Put me right off buying again. The label clearly said 10!

nomas · 15/11/2025 23:24

That’s awful. On eBay, the seller would send a pre-paid label to the buyer.

Ultravox · 15/11/2025 23:25

It’s shit but it’s in the Ts&Cs. I once ordered a hat and was sent a child’s 3 piece suit. Obvious the seller’s fault but they refused to pay for postage to return it so I didn’t return it and just sold it on (for more than I bought it for….ha!)

Sasssquatch · 16/11/2025 00:03

Vinted is t really set up for returning things. I think the intention is more you buy cheap, take a risk and if it’s not quite a hit you resell it.

This would be true with a skirt, but not a dress.

Friendlygingercat · 16/11/2025 03:20

The returns process can be abused on both Vinted and Ebay. I sold a buyer an expensive item ($150) and he decided he had purchased it "by mistake" despite 15 photos which showed every angle.. I only accept international returns for "not as described" but Ebay authorised a return. Ebay instructed me I had to refund the buyer within 3 days of the tracking showing it as being being delivered. However it was never delivered.

If the buyer had contacted me to negotiate a deal I would have given him instructions as to how to mark the package as a return. Instead he returned it by courier (without contacting me) and the package lacked the correct customs declaration. The result was that it arrived in UK with a hefty charge attached. Obviously I was not going to pay customs fees to get my own item back so it sat there at Stanstead airport for several weeks. Then DHL returned it to sender, for which he would have had to pay the courier a return charge. By then the returns window had closed so the buyer was stuck with it.

Ah thanks all

If you return it make sure to have it tracked/signed for. If it’s worth sending back for the money paid, it’s worth paying that bit extra for return postage.

This, and when you are selling items that are a fifth of the price of what was paid maybe even less, no offence but people asking for refunds is kind of annoying (sorry) as it’s just not the spirit of the platform and not worth the £1.50 you made

Darlingx · 16/11/2025 04:06

I had to pay return postage on a moth eaten shrunken bobbled jumper . I did the messaging back and forth with the seller who eventually said keep it with full refund but because I had clicked through to discover I was paying the return postage vinted or shinted as my partner calls it. Couldn’t allow what I and the seller had agreed through messages. So if u open a case and want a return mention u do not expect to pay return postage. Also if u can find out without clicking through if u r paying return postage.
Also bear in mind when you open the I have an issue (case) have your photos ready and of the packaging behind the item. Also take note the description you give of the issue is in effect a message to the seller so use a tone that is diplomatic for good outcomes eg I am sure u didn’t realise there was moth holes etc basically a case/ issue is you and seller back and forth messaging Vinted are not really involved until escalation much later on they are basically hands off customer service wise and u get auto replies saying u agreed to T&C regarding returns you basically agreed to get shafted

This would be true with a skirt, but not a dress.

It depends on the type of dress snd your boobs. My sister and I share a black dress, known as the funeral dress, and it’s definitely shorter on her than on me because although we are the same height, she’s got much bigger boobs,

Could you explain how that means leg length would be a better question to ask?
