AIBU to find it frustrating that when something bad happens to me, something also happens to my husband?

I mean, I’m sure I am being unreasonable but come on! It feels like I am never able to be injured, or ill, or anything by myself. Case in point, I am a week post op for a nasty but small bone fracture from an accident. Feeling sorry for myself and a bit clunky moving around. DH has somehow (and clearly not through any fault of his own) gone and got an infection requiring antibiotics which is making him sad and reluctant to do anything. So now I am second in the pity party stakes.

Anyone else have this with their family members?

Yes! My DH also. I started saying ‘I can’t have anything myself, can I?’ 😂

Namenamchange · 15/11/2025 10:41

Yes this is one of the many reason I left my ex. It’s caused massive resentment on my end, always coming second.

It’s funny but also so annoying! I want to be queen of wallows not queen consort!

Is he milking it to avoid looking after you?

Barnbrack · 15/11/2025 11:15

I like to ask 'is your uterus sore too?' when my husband does this

Rainbows41 · 15/11/2025 12:25

Just look after yourself. Set yourself up a nice cosy corner somewhere full of blankets and pillows with a hot flask of something delicious, plus a decent supply of snacks and rest. Leave him to his own devices.

Crushed23 · 15/11/2025 13:22

This sounds so petty. Caring about this and wanting to be the only one who needs care/sympathy, that is.

Do you think he is catching infections on purpose when you’re unwell?

RatsAss · 15/11/2025 13:26

DH always claims to be “choked with the cold “, occasionally he ramps it up to flu every single time I have something wrong with me. I can never be ill on my own.

When he does what? Gets ill or injured at a time you’re hogging all the attention? Unless you really imagine he’s doing it on purpose, which would be weird in the extreme.

Terrytheweasel · 15/11/2025 13:29

My ex still does this. I have to see him as we have children together! He even developed back ache when I was in labour.

The OP’s husband has got an infection. He’s not done it on purpose FFS.

MyAmusedOpalCrab · 15/11/2025 14:18

Jesus Christ. A lot of you are with degenerates because wtf. You marry these men who would have showed signs of this behaviour before, then you come on here and complain. What a ridiculous thread.

I hope I don’t become like the lot of you when I’m married.

Yeah... I'm joking when I say it as it happens so regularly.

Evo20 · 15/11/2025 15:28

OP I am heavily pregnant and my DH is suffering from heartburn, sciatica and insomnia.

It’s remarkable really.

Same. Why is that? Why do they do it? Fucking grates on me
