Posting here as it’s a bit urgent.
DS has an op booked for today. He’s 4 and is having a couple of teeth out.
we need to be at the hospital for 7.30am but he’s just been sick. I ring and cancel don’t I?

I’d ask them. Has he been sick just the once? Is he worried about the op?
Hope he feels better soon but I’d ask the hospital and I suspect they will probably re arrange.

He’s only young, so isn’t really aware of what’s happening today, so I doubt it’s that. So far it’s only been once, but I expect it’ll happen again

Typical, I’ve kept him off school the last 2 days so he would be well for this! It’s already had to be cancelled once

Oh bless him. It’s always the way. Hopefully someone else comes along, but really you have to go with what the hospital say and I suspect they will postpone

Todayreally · 15/11/2025 05:10

To be honest, I’m reluctant to take him regardless of what they advise. If it’s a bug, I don’t want to potentially infect other vulnerable people. Plus, I don’t really fancy him being sick in the car!
I have severe emetaphobia so I’m in freak out mode at the moment

I can’t speak to anyone at the hospital until 7am when the reception opens. To get there in time, park etc, I need to leave at 6.45. This is a nightmare!

I would get him ready, then ring at 7am, even if they tell you to come in they'll appreciate why you're 15mins late.

It does sound like you want to cancel though and not risk him being sick in the car that you'd need to clean up. I don't think that's reasonable if the Drs say it's OK, it's already been cancelled once and the NHS is under so much strain.

Focussingonme · 15/11/2025 06:23

Unless he's been sick again, go to he hospital. Ask for a mask for him on arrival and speak to the Dr there about next steps. I'm waiting on a date for surgery for my 4 year old and at the pre-op asked similar questions as it's winter and she is in pre-school etc. it seemed like unless they'd been sick multiple times or had a fever it could go ahead as a quick procedure - might be the same for you.

verycloakanddaggers · 15/11/2025 06:27

You need to ask the hospital, this isn't your call to make - your child needs this treatment.

So head off, and park up somewhere safe to make a call at 7am.

His dad is picking us both up at 7. I’ll sit in the back with DS. Take him and see what they say. They may well turn us away, but at least we tried

Well, we got there armed with a bucket and a towel. As I expected, they said they wouldn’t do it. So I’m back at home with a very large coffee, and little DS has gone home with his daddy until tomorrow. I plan to do very little today. I’m knackered!
thanks for all the replies xx
