My girl is having her kittens! First one is here squeaking and healthy!

Second is imminent.

I think she’ll have 4 🤞🏽🤞🏽

14 years ago I got a male and female siblings, the day they were both meant to have their operations my make cat got hit by a car and I was so upset I rescheduled the operation, when my female cat went in for her pre op check up it turned out she was pregnant, oh I felt awful as she was so young and it obviously wasn't meant to happen.
Anyway she gave birth to 3 very healthy kittens, unfortunately I could not let them go as I saw this as our responsibility as I let this happen, so we kept them all.
They all are speyed or neutered so no more accidents, and they all get lots of love from mummy cat still even though they are all 13 now.
Our GSD also used to clean and cuddle them.
I just love animals as they are so less argumentative than humans.

The difficulty is someone may come across this thread and decide to let their cat have a litter of kittens because they see these kittens and think they’re cute, or they then buy kittens from gumtree or wherever else, without realising doing so is hugely irresponsible. If the thread is left to run with only positive feedback and gushing “oh wow so cute” comments that’s irresponsible and promotes ignorance. People need to be discussing these things, not pretending they’re not an issue for the sake of not offending someone.

I’m sorry but that’s not the OPs (or any other poster’s) responsibility. When a person shares their experience they are in no way encouraging others to seek the same for themselves. We need to stop pretending we are entitled to something or can aspire to something because someone else on the internet had the same thing or the same experience.

Btw rehoming one from a shelter doesn’t work for people who would like to have a cat because the only ones that might get accepted are single people who never leave their house (and apparently don’t need to go to work). My sister who lives on her own in a big house with garden got rejected because she couldn’t guarantee that she’d never be out of the home for more than 4 hours for the next 10 years. Absolutely ridiculous and I can only assume that people who successfully adopt lie on the form but she wasn’t willing to do that and truthfully said that she obviously can’t rule out being out of the house for an afternoon at some point. Luckily she found someone like OP who was rehoming privately and is now a loving cat mum.

It's really sad we can't enjoy things on MN before they are ruined! Happens ALL the time now.

Yep. All the time. I was up at 3am watching live and thought how lovely but of course the negative Nancys are up and at it this morning. Shame as it is so tedious but entirely predictable.

ClairDeLaLune · 13/11/2025 09:29

Aww what a fantastic thread! Thank you OP, it’s cheered me right up 😻 Congratulations to mummy cat and to you as a kitty granny!

Ignore the haters, some people are such joy suckers, they like to pour misery on everything. If every female cat was spayed before she had kittens then there would be no more kittens and the world would be a terrible place. Thank you OP for making the world a little bit better today 😻

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 13/11/2025 09:29

@MakeMineADietCoke OP isn’t actually obliged to follow what you have decreed as ethical behaviour. No one is. It’s a matter of choice and she has chosen something you wouldn’t. I can imagine a few scenarios where I would, too. You know nothing of her situation and why, this time, it felt like the right thing to do.

Shelters are ridiculous. Simple as that. We have a cat from a breeder as the shelter rejected ys as we wouldn't let the cat roam. They were convinced a cat need to have 100% freedom to roam. The breeder loved that the cat is not roaming the neighbourhood.

Me too @nomas - they are fluffing up too. I love them. I don’t know how on earth I will be able to rehome them.

I have enough owners for a litter of 6 so I know they are all going to be loved though.

I don’t know how on earth I will be able to rehome them.

As gorgeous as they are (and congrats mummy cat), as someone who helps out a friend who works for Cats Protection, please get your cat neutered after this. There are so so many cats at the moment needing homes and having more adds to the lack of spaces, kittens being born on the streets, no shelter, poorly, needing a home badly. The problem is huge and can be solved if most people did the right thing.

If on low income, full-time student or elderly, they offer a chip and neuter scheme for a tenner which is an amazing price.

IT’S NOT OP’s FAULT OTHER PEOPLE BREED IRRESPONSIBLY.

She has homes for the kittens.

Totally agree.

If you made it in today I so hope you did a global email with a pic saying We Are A Grandmother and telling them all normal service will be resumed as soon as possible! 🤗 🐈🐾

They're not all the same. Some shelters have cats that they actually need to stay in, so you would've been ideal. It's about waiting to match the right home with the right animal.

Pennyfan · 13/11/2025 09:37

What beautiful kitties OP and a lovely post. I get that about cats having kittens but you have ensured all your kittens will have loving homes beforehand. But what I do want to take issue with are posters filling you with doom and gloom about future health conditions due to her having a litter. Animals have evolved to breed-it’s in their DNA. Yes, we have created ways of being kinder to our pets by spaying them and controlling unwanted litters which would have previously been drowned but cats and all other animals will have young. Their bodies will cope. Sure there are slightly elevated risks for certain conditions-but that’s life!

MistressoftheDarkSide · 13/11/2025 09:37

Congratulations OP.

Adorable little scraps 🥰

I had an accidental litter of 4 earlier this year, due to incredibly stressful life circumstances (multiple bereavements) having to be prioritised. Both my cats, the parents, are indoor cats, and I too had homes lined up very early in the pregnancy. Mum and Dad are both "done" now, so no risk of repetition but I enjoyed the experience and the homes they went to were all "in need" from the point of view they had lost beloved pets or were struggling with other emotional issues.

If I didn't have my two little terrors to get up for in the morning, I might well not bother.

Of course responsible pet owning is extremely important, but I don't think some people grasp how important animal / human bonds can be to both parties.

So ignore the less than congratulatory posts, I really wish that people can get it into their heads that not every person nor situation is the same.

And if we eliminate all kittens, eventually there'd be no cats at all. Same goes for any blunt tool solution to any problem. Such as veganism. The logical end result is no animals, with the knock on effect to the eco system. There is an ethical happy medium to be achieved.

And am keen to see more kitten pictures 😻 x

Best of luck and love to the OP and family x

What a lovely thread. I’m SO envious OP. Our cat had a litter of kitties when my daughter was young and it was one of the most magical and memorable experiences of my life. You’ve got a wonderful few weeks ahead!

Pancakeorcrepe · 13/11/2025 09:42

Oh OP!
The kittens are obviously very gorgeous. How could they not be.
But you have done a very irresponsible thing. Listen to the people who work in animal rescue. There is an excess of animals that need homes. There is absolutely zero reason to be breeding moggy kittens. There are literally thousands of them waiting for homes in this country alone.
To then go online and encourage this sort of naive and childish behaviour is not on. These kittens are not here to provide entertainment and joy to your family. They are not cute little toys. The homes you have supposedly found for them could have taken in kittens in real need, not kittens bred by people who have no clue about what is happening in the animal welfare world.
It is done now but please don’t encourage this sort of behaviour in your circles and online. It is so ignorant.
If you wanted to have the experience of raising kittens, you could have done maternity fostering.
Please don’t take this the wrong way. They are here now and are lovely. But inform yourself and don’t encourage this behaviour, it will just perpetuate the animal welfare problem.

Happyjoe · 13/11/2025 09:43

Please get your cat neutered. These little chumps are with a friend at the moment, born outside by a cat who'd been missing for 4 years and was found 60 miles away from her home.

4 years of having kittens outside in the elements, no help, prey for foxes and of course, adding to a feral population.

These two were rescued a few weeks ago, had an eye infection. One is now blind, the other can see out of one eye. The mum cat has been returned to owner, after being spayed to break the chain of creating ferals.

I don't want to be a killjoy, but the reality is this. Intact cats will travel far to mate, the mating itself is pretty horrific for the girl (multiple cats will do this to same girl), and if the cat is lost the poor kittens are in trouble. There are so many cats out there that need help, and left to suffer because the waiting list for rescues is a year or more to help the cats because kittens have to be rescued first. All those people who do not neuter are adding to the problem, be it the cat goes missing, they hand in the litters to rescues or they take the rehoming spaces that other cats could've had.

Who wants to wait whilst my kittens are born!

Telling you something you don’t want to hear is not horrible or bullying. We’re still correct.

Jeez, there are so many mean-spirited people on here today.

Ignore these miserable people, OP. Your mama cat and her babies are adorable and I'm glad they're here.

Well, I approached cats protection for a kitten few years back and got rejected despite having a 4-bed house and garden and having cat-rearing experience - all because I had DC who are primary-aged. If the shelters are so full, it's partly their own doing.

I got a cat from a person like OP and he is much loved and adored

Exactly.
How of these kittens that OP will rehome to friends and family, I can guarantee at least two of these kittens will go on to have accidental pregnancies. “Because of stressful circumstances”, because of this, because of that. And so it continues.

No other rescues around? Around here we have 5 different rescue centres.

My friend would not have rejected you because of a child, she works with CP. But she would reject if near a main or busy road.
