Hi
ive recently retired from a fairly full on IT tech role (still doing a few hours as advisory). However I am so tired. All the time. Why?

Finally stopped and the age old overwork is catching up at last?

BeautifulSongsofLove · 12/11/2025 21:59

Have you seen your GP and had blood tests to investigate the tiredness?

ArtichokesBloom · 12/11/2025 21:59

Check up with your GP seems a good plan but maybe your body is just having some time now that it's no longer on the treadmill

ThePoshUns · 12/11/2025 22:01

You were probably running in Adrenalin, now you’re not and your energy levels have dropped?

Mollypolly2610 · 12/11/2025 22:25

I am the same blood tests found out I am chronic anaemic.

This! Do you still have a eoutine set up? It's even more important to have one in place. Get up at the same time every day M-F, and get going with something within an hour of getting up.

I've seen so many people aged by 10 years within a few months after retirement because they didn't prepare for it and fail to have a productive life, albeit slower than before.

amber763 · 13/11/2025 08:11

Get checked out incase its something like b12 but also if you can start getting out to the gym or to swimming it might help?

squashyhat · 13/11/2025 08:34

When I retired I slept until 10 every day for a few weeks. I didn't think I was tired but years of a long commute, early mornings and late nights, a stressful job, adjusting to a new life, and taking over a larger share of the household tasks temporarily while DH was still working all took their toll. Be kind to yourself and get some fresh air and exercise every day. You will relax into it and wonder how you found time to go to work.

Dunnocantthinkofone · 13/11/2025 08:36

Depends how recently….
only a few weeks ago = recuperating from years of stress and lack of time
Longer than that - maybe not doing enough/lack of structure? Inactivity can deffo breed sluggishness

Talltreesbythelake · 13/11/2025 08:40

Have you got a gas boiler? Has it been serviced recently? I had a spell of being tired constantly which cleared up when the gas fitter realised that the pipe through the loft had come apart. I have never seen a repair happen so fast! I have a carbon monoxide detector now.

Get yourself checked out bloods etc but retirement is a stressful life event. Even if it’s wanted. Plus you’ve been used to being distracted and your time being someone else’s… and stressed too! It can be like a grief reaction - Google the change cycle. You’ve lost routine, colleagues, financial status, professional identity and it’s normal to take time to adjust… But check your bloods and especially b12 and folate.
