Dad/Mum

I have just realised that I am so tired of hearing fathers described as 'dads' or mothers as 'mums'. I was discouraged from calling my parents mum and dad and called them Mummy and Daddy until D and M took over. I have never referred to either of them to other people except as 'my father', 'my mother' or 'my parents'. I really hate Mum and Dad.

I used to work with a woman who called her parents mummy and daddy. It sounded ridiculous.

yes it gives spinster in their 50s+ still living at home vibes

Give it a few years and they’ll be saying much worse behind your back, no idea why you are so triggered.

My adult children call me Mummy when speaking to me or signing a card ,but refer to me as Mum .I did the same with my darling Mum and Dad .
All families are different.

Spidey66 · 16/11/2025 14:45

No, it was always Mum and Dad in our family.

if I was talking about them to others I’d still refer to them as ‘my mum and dad’ but in a professional conversation might refer to them as ‘my parents’ or my mother/father.
