WARNING DISTRESSING SEX/VIOLENCE -to ask you to follow this case

I started this thread with the title am I unreasonable to be shocked.... but my shock has quickly changed to fury. How many times is a murderer/rapist allowed "another chance" to murder and rape further people?

We've all read about plenty of appalling crimes frequently and most of us are probably pretty desensitised to it but AIBU to be utterly shocked that someone that commits these terrible offences has been repeatedly released (early of course) and allowed to offend again and again.

This man Mohammed Azim
-killed a man walking his dog (imprisoned for "manslaughter" served 11 years)
-violently raped a women
"He hit her over the head with a bottle and dragging her into a factory by her hair."
He was imprisoned for 16 years in July 2013 but was obviously released early as just 12 years later he has charged with the murder of 19 year old Lily Whitehouse found with serious injuries on a west midlands street (now deceased).

If found guilty of this offence will this man be released in future to get another chance at rape and murder?

This article is from 2014 when he was sentenced to 16 years. He obviously didn't serve it as he has been charged with another murder.

I'm asking you to follow this case and if Mohammed Azim
is found guilty of the murder of Lily Whitehouse for public opinion to demand that this man does not walk free AGAIN.

I’ve been following it. Many would say and many would agree the parole boards hands are dripping with blood. Surely he’s got to get a WLO this time

You are not being in any way unreasonable, except in your apparent surprise that an offender sentenced to 16 years is free 11 years later. Typically, he would be released after 50% of his sentence, so sometime in 2022.

Sadly it won’t be life, it will be “life” (something like a 15 year min term). There are so few people with whole life orders, which is ridiculous in a country as large as ours.

People who commit serious violent crimes and are clearly unhinged need to be locked up before they kill.

To commit these crimes you must be a psychopath - and you'll still be a psychopath in 15 years 😢

Some people just need to be thrown in a volcano. No use whatsoever.

. There's a section for petitions, which is what it appears you may be getting at by asking people to follow and to bring public opinion to bear.

No petition. I just don't think this level of repeat offending should fly under the radar for the chap to be out to reoffend in another 11 years. We should be watching.

He only served 5 years of his 11 year sentence for the abduction and drowning (convicted of manslaughter rather than murder) of a man in 2006.

In 2013 he was sentenced to 16 years for the sexual offences committed in 2011 when he was out on licence from his first crime. He was released in 2020. Presumably he was held on remand in 2011.

You would hope he would be given a whole life order if found guilty but I'm not sure if this crime meets the threshold for that as a starting point and I don't think his past crimes can be considered for the purposes of sentencing. A decent judge will give him life with a minimum term which means he's likely to die of old age before being considered for release.

If he'd been charged with murder for his first crime the abduction would have been considered an aggravating factor and the crime would have met the threshold for a whole life order.

Cases like this make you lose faith in the people who make decisions about who is suitable for parole.

This creature has no business being in our country. I’m sick of it. I’m terrified for my children’s future.
