Cheap magnesium

Hello! I recently had a two week trial of magnesium glycinate powder and it worked wonders. I slept amazingly and felt great. Having gone to buy, my jaw dropped at the proper price! I don't think I can pay £1 a day for this sort of thing.

Hacks for getting magnesium in? I'm eating pumpkin seeds but the sachets were 250mg... Feels like I'd have to eat a lot of pumpkin seeds to get that...

FYI I felt amazing on Magnesium Glycinate for about a month then developed a paradoxical response and developed the worst anxiety and insomnia of my life. Its not super common to have this response but it does happen to a significant minority of people with magnesium glycinate.

That's really interesting, I took the vitabiotics ultra magnesium for months and was fine but decided to switch to nutrition geeks Magnesium glycinate 3 in 1 and the anxiety I had after that as crazy, I had tingling all down my left arm for about 2 weeks before I stopped the magnesium, because I forgot to refill my pill dispenser and realised that the magnesium was causing the tingling and anxiety.

@Bettyfromhomeroom Yeah for some Magnesium Glycinate is stimulating and has the opposite effect. Definitely something to be aware of, it took me way too long to realise what was causing my insomnia and anxiety.

I take this one, it’s great and I take just one a night, half hour before bed.

The lotion is brilliant. I rub in belly button area. Not too much or I would be running to the bathroom when I wake!

This is really interesting to hear… I’ve been on Nutrition Geeks 3-in-1 for about six weeks (to hopefully help with migraines and sleep) but have also started to wonder if its causing some anxiety/vivid dreams! But when I google it i couldnt find any other cases.

I take mine before bed and have found that I’m getting intrusive thoughts and sudden panic when falling asleep. Also having vivid dreams that make me feel anxious when waking!

WeNeedToTalkAboutIT · 10/11/2025 19:44

The skin application ones make my skin itchy so there's that to look forward to!

Epson salts in your bath is a cheap way of getting magnesium if your skin can tolerate it.

I use magnesium bisglycinate powder from H&B. I find I don't need to take it every day, and can buy it on special offer, so a tub lasts a good while.

Check which form of magnesium is in a sachet OP, and search for that specifically.

Actually it’s not hype. Our soil is largely depleted now of magnesium and various trace minerals (e.g. selenium and chromium). Magnesium deficiency is one of the most common deficiencies in the UK.

interesting I had never heard anyone even mention it exists before reading this thread. For other reasons I have had several "full" blood tests and magnesium was never mentioned, although other deficiencies were.

@MissRabbit00 I was taking it to help with migraine as well and it did but the side effects were too awful to continue, I actually ended up on betablockers for a couple of weeks to help dampen down the anxiety. If you look on reddit there are a lot of people reporting issues with Magnesium Glycinate in particular.

You could try taking Vitamin b1 with it as some people say that helps these kinds of issues with magnesium but you could also try magnesium malate or taurate which is what I am trying now.

What you describe does sound very familiar to me.

Can you post a link please? I’ve tried their powder which did nothing for me. My sleep is terrible, so willing to try anything for a period of time!

Hi, it is nutrition geeks . My post crossed with others; it is the same supplement as the Amazon link posted further up, but find the direct price is better when buying more than 1 pack.

I get weird dreams too and have been taking this for a while, but had linked it to a medication I am taking to prevent migraines, as it is a known symptoms. Do you take any medications to prevent migraines ?

ohreallyIsee · 11/11/2025 16:34

Anybody else get really weird, vivid dreams with magnesium, I had a week of night after night of weird dreams then realised they had started 2 days after I started taking magnesium, stopped the tablets and the dreams stopped

I bought some volcanic rock dust a few years ago for my vegetable garden. I'd read something about it being useful with small amounts of minerals in.

My GP suggested it to me 11yrs ago. So it's not something that's just appeared from nowhere!

SailingAwayAgain · 11/11/2025 16:47

I use Vitabright Magnesium Glycinate capsules. They're a high quality product. The dose is two capsules daily.

You can buy four bottles (720 capsules, so enough for about a year) for £60, which is about 16p per day.

Catwalking · 11/11/2025 16:56

I get whatever’s cheapest on ebay, buuuut go for the malate version cos glycinate inparticular makes me somewhat loose. This was suggested at a hyperparathyroidism site from U.S.
It’s v important for forming bones as well as helping sleep (tho not mine haha).

I don’t take anything else to prevent migraines. The dreams don’t actually bother me too much, its more the panic/sense of doom/intrusive thoughts when falling asleep that are awful.

It does seem to coincide with whenever I take them. I do take them before bed - I wonder if switching to the morning would help.

JBJ · 11/11/2025 21:31

The Nutrition Geeks one is really good. Definitely helped my restless legs and sleep.

ohreallyIsee · 12/11/2025 00:06

The vivid dreams can happen with magnesium,it's to do with how it affects your sleep pattern. More rem sleep so more dreaming.

BaalSatanas · 12/11/2025 00:32

Magnesium Bisglycinate (Glycinate) 500mg x90 Swiss Bioenergetics capsules for £8.47 on Amazon… so £3 a month…

not me, but I take mine with breakfast.

I use the Nutrition Geeks one from Amazon. I have it on monthly subscription which gets (so long as you have 5 subscriptions a month delivered) an extra 15% off.
