Vinted

What is it with everyone trying to get lower prices even though it’s already a bargain! For example brand new item with tags RRP £20 so I put it up for £10 then people asking if i’ll take £6. I find it so frustrating!

I wouldn't buy it for £10 because by the time you pay postage and buyer fee it would be about £16, you may as well buy it from the shop for £20 where you can return. I'd absolutely chance a lower offer, it's not personal just decline if you don't want to sell for that.

HappyGilmorex · 10/11/2025 14:31

The thing about Vinted is that stuff's only worth what people will pay for it. The RRP is pretty irrelevant because the second hank market is oversaturated and everything is going cheap.

I've sold lots of my children's clothes and most of it is really beautiful and good quality brands, barely worn, going for £2 or £3. That's what people are willing to pay, so there's no point in me getting cross about it.

SilenceInside · 10/11/2025 14:34

There is a system to allow people to send you offers. You can just ignore them or decline them, or give a counter offer if you like.

And yes, I agree that you have to remember that the buyer will be paying the fee plus the postage. The total after all of that still has to be a good price for a secondhand item including those costs.

Socktree · 10/11/2025 14:42

If I buy it from you at half price (plus fees and postage, so actually about 75% of RRP) I'm taking a chance on it fitting and suiting me without any ability to return it to the shop (or you).
So in my head I'm thinking it's not worth the punt unless it's a propper bargain price.

vivainsomnia · 10/11/2025 15:06

I'm experiencing this right now. I got an item for my birthday when I already had one. Put it up with 30% discount but people are asking for 50%.

Yet I've just sold two very used items of clothing (in good condition) and got full asking price.

Sadly, people buy New items on Vinted to then resale at a higher price (better advertising!). I'd rather give the item to friends or family members than it going to profit a stranger.

vivainsomnia · 10/11/2025 15:12

I think there is a difference between used and new. Used, I will accept offers. It's subjective what a used item is really worth.

Brand new? No. It is still very much a bargain if it is cheaper than buying new and they CAN still return the item. Most will also have shipping fees.

AlphaApple · 10/11/2025 19:58

Yeah, what everyone else said. Fees and postage adds up. Plus you have to price in the risk it doesn’t fit/suit/isn’t as described.

Exactly this. You have to take into account postage and the risk of not being able to return and trying to sell it yourself and recoup all your costs. Always make an offer.

Youdontseehow · 10/11/2025 20:09

Yeah that’s what I always add about a third to the price of what I am willing to accept. So say a top I want £8 for, i’ll List at £11/12 then accept a lower offer.

I put up a f&f summer dress once for £2 (cost me 13 and I never wore it as it just didn’t suit me) and someone offered 50. I did a counter offer of £1.50 and they bought it.

DD sells stuff from Zara etc that go out of stock quickly and sometimes gets what she paid or even more - so there’s lots of variables.

A nice thing that happened to me was when I sold my “old office wear clothes” when I semi retired - sold a Next blouse for £1.50 (she talked me down from £2). I got a message from her a short while later saying she’d worn it to an interview and got the job after trying for months to get a job. So there are people who really are skint and need a bit of a helping hand I guess. I really pretty much sell on Vinted cos I hate waste and charities are so fussy nowadays and just seem to want toiletries and money 🤷‍♀️

vivainsomnia · 10/11/2025 20:23

Just sold the item at full price! I turned down 8 people before!

Arpegios · 10/11/2025 20:29

It's because Vinted gives you the option to make an offer and makes it quite prominent, so most people probably think it's worth chancing their arm - and everyone loves a bargain! I just got £2 off a £25 winter jacket and for some reason it just makes me feel better about the whole transaction!

Be thankful you got an offer.
There's loads of clothes around.

Zempy · 10/11/2025 20:45

I agree £10 is too much if you consider the fees on top.

You can only return if item is Significantly not as described and even then you have to pay return postage. If it simply doesn’t fit, the seller can refuse a refund.

When you get someone haggling over 30p and the item is 2.50.
or when someone has just bought an item and they literally message you asking when
you are sending it and then it takes them 10 days to collect it.
If you believe an item is worth the stick to your guns. I’ve sold a used designer children’s dress but in excellent condition for £25 few weeks ago after people offering £5. Some people want something for nothing.

TooTiredMum2 · 10/11/2025 20:59

I only consider buying if it’s 50% or less of the retail price, including fees and postage. Otherwise it’s not worth the risk. However I don’t make offers to not upset people, I figure that either they manage to sell for their price or they’ll lower the price anyway.

flirtygirl · 10/11/2025 21:01

£10 is a ridiculous price for a £20 item.

That's usually for a £40+ item as once you factor in postage and fees, it's just not worth it.

I.buy and sell lots on vinted.

Ie. New price £160
I price it at £39.99 probably get £30-35.

New price £20
I price it at £7.99 and probably accept £5 as even with that they are paying £8.50-9.

If you are realistic on vinted then you sell.

Just remember that once you have bought the item, stored the item for however long, the new/original price basically means nothing.

If you don't want to give it away for free, whatever you get is whatever someone offers you for it.

And the cost are sunk anyway, you already spent the money anyway.

WaneyEdge · 10/11/2025 21:05

I don’t mind and expect to get offers. What does annoy me and this has happened twice recently is; I have an item at £10, I’ve been offered £8 and accepted twice, then they just haven’t bothered to pay. Why offer if you don’t want it?

vivainsomnia · 11/11/2025 07:22

I figure that either they manage to sell for their price or they’ll lower the price anyway
Exactly that. After 8 offers I wasn't going to consider, I added that I wouldn't take offers. I sold the item at full asking price within 1 hour.

I think buyers too often assume sellers are desperate to sell. Some are, some are not. I don't care that much. If it doesn't sell, I give it to friends or charity. If I do, I use the money to buy more on Vinted.

northern2025 · 11/11/2025 07:24

That does not seem a bargain to me

mommyandmore · 11/11/2025 20:31

Very interesting. Thank you for the insight!
