Hi Everyone,

I had a weeks worth of antibiotics for another infection and it's always a coin toss to whether I get thrush on my lettuce when I have anti b's.

it's been manageable and barely there until tonight, when I got in the bath, and now hoooooly shite my whole minge feels like it's sunburnt and on fire. I stupidly itched it and now it's bleeding and it's just miserable.

im rural so no emergancy chemists open.

any incredible quick home remedies for a fiery fanny about there in the mumsnet abyss?
shamelessly posting for traffic. My poor hole looks like a Japanese flag.
and I am in pretty bad pain.
not a fanny troll, regular user.
will take pain killers but can't take ibuprofen.
currently having a sulk in the bath with a hot growler.

tia

Natural yoghurt if you've got some.

MrTumblesSpottyBoxers · 09/11/2025 19:32

Yogurt is supposed to help I think

Natural yoghurt if you've got some.

Ah I have some! I have natural Greek yogurt, so I literally just slap it on and hope for the best?

thank you!

I'm genuinely in agony I never knew thrush could hurt this much!

The bath won't be helpful, the warm will make you more itchy.

Yes and you can dip a tampon in it for inside

I think you're right I'm doing myself no favours here. I'm going to get out and retrieve the natural yogurt and remind myself not to double dip!

Cotton pads soaked in cool camomile tea

MissMoneyFairy · 09/11/2025 19:39

It should be live culture yoghurt and some say you shouldn't use it internally if it contains sugar, check on a health website

DiscoBob · 09/11/2025 19:42

I think all natural yoghurt is live? I don't think it matters if it's greek. You can use a syringe to squirt it up there or soak it in a tampon and use that. It's really soothing and provides instant relief to me anyway.

tracyon · 09/11/2025 19:44

Cool things right down! Wet old clean towel with cold as you can bear water and apply!

Rescuedogblues · 09/11/2025 19:44

If you happen to have athletes foot cream, its the same thing as thrush cream. Just check the strength.

Terrytheweasel · 09/11/2025 19:46

Stop baths completely. Stop sugar (or reduce). Start probiotics. Slap on the yoghurt - anywhere it needs it. get a fan and aim it at your bits for a bit.
I’ve tried a tampon soaked in a bit of diluted apple cider vinegar too before which was ok.

Oneearringlost · 09/11/2025 19:51

Oh poor you!
The yoghurt won't cure it, its sounds far too embedded, you'll need a canesten pessary +/- and oral Fluconazole tablet tomorrow, but it will help to soothe it.( Try to get the gel pessary rather than the "chalky" one, much kinder on sore, excoriated skin.
Do get extra doses of both in, to keep for future emergencies.
Sounds grim, really hope you get some treatment/relief tomorrow.

Misfiteverywhere · 09/11/2025 19:53

Would sitting on an ice pack help? Or the long thin ice lollies?

EilonwyWithRedGoldHair · 09/11/2025 20:00

In my long experience with recurring thrush, olive oil can be very soothing. GP said to use vaseline, or if you have any emollient cream you could use that. Don't use any soap or shower gel at all.

EverardDeTroyes · 09/11/2025 20:02

Years and years ago, the advice was either yoghurt, as above, or vinegar. I am here to attest that neither work and one makes you smell like a chip shop, but, until you get some canesten, anything is worth a try.

abracadabra1980 · 09/11/2025 20:08

Check your toilet paper too - who on earth thought it good a good idea to produce scented loo roll needs a good talking to. And it was probably a man.

WhereAreMyKids · 09/11/2025 20:11

As soon as I get a prescription for antibiotics I pick up a pessary/cream thrush package at the same time. I always get thrush after antibiotics. My most miserable was after my appendix ruptured, came on my period and had thrush all at once.

For tonight slap that greek yoghurt up there and smother a pad.

Cotton pads soaked in cool camomile tea

Second this.
OP I feel for you.

I know some previous posters said avoid hot baths, but steaming it in the hot camomile tea has saved me from a total misery . Just be careful not to burn yourself!!

And totally avoiding /cutting out sugar. It is a must I’m afraid, but it works.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 09/11/2025 20:17

I've had oral thrush before and the gels didn't work, but a mixture of water, salt and a few drops of tea tree worked really well (and for other people I've suggested it to). I'd try putting this mixture on a bit of kitchen roll and pressing it against where it's sore.

Cornflakegirl7 · 09/11/2025 20:28

Manuka honey worked for me. Basically stuck my crack together with it before bed-thrush gone in the morning. I had it for the same reasons as you, antibiotics. Agonising! and they didn't bloody work

I appreciate not everyone's going to have manuka honey in the house AND It's expensive, but a tiny pot was all it took for me.

murasaki · 09/11/2025 20:30

For the future, is this penicillin? You may have an intolerance. If you get clarithromycin or erythromycin it may not happen, this worked for me.

YachtMistress · 09/11/2025 20:42

Suggestions which have worked in the past (and some repetition from thread):
-exclude sugar and caffeine and alcohol from diet
-no hot baths
-cold water with weak dilution of vinegar to wash affected bits ( it will smart a bit)
-get some air around the affected bits, avoid tights and wear cotton underwear
-smear plain cold greek yoghurt on the hot bits
Hope it clears up soon
