To let DH finish the decorating?

Currently in the middle of decorating our bedroom. It’s a large room and it needs completely redoing so I have been prepping and painting the woodwork and am no doing the walls. It’s a dark colour so needs careful painting especially where it meets the edges. (White painted).

So far it has taken me a week…I have limited stamina for health reasons. DH is getting restless that it’s not finished and wants to help with the painting.

Trouble is he has form for being a very messy painter and I am worried about both the tricky edges and cream carpet.

AIBU to take my time and do it myself and DH needs to be patient. ( DH is comfy sleeping in the spare room and I am on the sofa as the spare room bed is too small for us to share…)but it is disruptive and getting clothes etc is tricky. Or should I let DH help and get the job done?

Get him to put down some extra protection on the floor and let him do the rolling. Then you do the important bits. Unless it is really important to you to do it all yourself of course.

My husband is now "allowed" to do edges with a shur line paint edger if that helps. It works really well if you look up the technique of swooping up to the line, running it both ways and swooping down. I wish I could credit the original youtuber I saw do it.

Honestly a whole week is a bit excessive for just decorating one room. Give him a roller to do the majority of the wall and you do the edges if it bothers you that much, it'll only take you a few hours and then you can both go back to using the room.

Work together. You do the edges, he does the middle bit. Dont you put plastic sheets down anyway even when you’re painting?

If you decorate properly - there is sanding, filling , priming , sealing , cleaning. All before the painting … so it can take a while . Especially if doing it around commitments etc

I'm not disputing that there are stages to decorating but even with all those steps and doing it around other commitments it really shouldn't take a whole week to do one room. It is an excessive amount of time and he wants to help make the process quicker which seems sensible.

A week isn't particularly excessive, especially as OP says she has health issues and is presumably working etc. instead.

DH and I are currently doing our living room and it's going to take much longer than a week around work, the animals, downtime etc.

Seems a weird thing to get judgy about. Everyone needs to cut their cloth to what they can manage.

@Luxio I’m sure it can be done quicker but working around cornices, picture rails and high ceilings adds to the job…

I appreciate that it can be time consuming with all those elements but if he's willing to help and it would get you off the sofa surely there's a way to compromise to get it all done more quickly?
