Noisy kids in pubs

I don't know if I'm being unreasonable - I'm happy to be told I am.

I don't mind children and on a nice day don't actually mind them yelling and playing in a beer garden. I'm no Grinch. Equally, I don't mind them sitting with family playing quietly. I know babies cry and that's part and parcel of life.

But I was in a pub tonight around 7.30pm/8pm and these kids (age 3 to 6, I would guess) were screaming, riding their scooters in-between tables, racing around.

It was an adult environment. People were quietly drinking, eating meals. They were so loud. I'm not really sure what they're parents were doing

I don't blame them, of course, they are children. But - and I don't have children - is this acceptable? I'm merely curious as it felt disruptive.

I didn't say anything, of course. I'm a wimp.

It can’t have been an adult environment if kids were allowed 😂😂

I wouldn’t let mine ride scooters inside but I would if outside.. not sure of that helps

LaserPumpkin · 07/11/2025 22:27

Inside or outside?

I don’t think scooters should ever be used indoors, and don’t think it’s safe for children to be running around where people are carrying food and drink.

However, I’d also be too much of a wimp to challenge the type of parents who allow their kids to behave like this!

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 07/11/2025 22:29

Scooters and bikes should never be allowed inside pubs.

LadyTable · 07/11/2025 22:29

Bad parenting and bad pub management.

You don't actually need to be a parent to know that kids riding scooters inside a pub, where people are carrying glasses/plates of food around is not acceptable.

Pretty weird you need to ask?

WendyErica · 07/11/2025 22:33

Yeah it was inside. I thought maybe I was being really judgemental. It was mainly the relentless screaming to be fair. And running around.

Glad I'm not the only wimp 😂😂😂

Can you really not tell the difference between being judgemental and seeing the danger of kids tearing around a pub on scooters?

The absolute least I would be doing now is contacting the pub to complain about the staff doing nothing.

MidnightPatrol · 07/11/2025 22:40

Yes crap parenting, they should be made to sit down.

I know a few people who let their kids behave like this. Just seemingly no boundaries at all.

All complain about their kids bad behaviour at other times, and well… yeah it’s because you don’t tell them off for misbehaving. I have seen you ignoring it…!

I think some people are just so wrapped up in their own world they don’t realise the impact they’re having on others.

I can't really be bothered and it's a one off. Normally it's pretty quiet! I wanted to know if I was uptight. Like I say the scooters were a couple of times, the screaming was... a lot

Of course this is unacceptable, the scooters in particular.

However I agree with a PP who said that the sort of parent who would allow their DC to behave like this are probably also the sort who wouldn't react well to their behaviour being commented on, so understandable to be a wimp.

The pub management should really have stepped in.

youalright · 07/11/2025 22:43

We where taken to the pub as kids all the time and it was made very clear to us how to behave in a pub we would sit there with a bag of crisps and a glass of coke quietly. Kids riding around on scooters and sceaming is ridiculous
