Heated clothes airers

Are any of them any good? I got one the other day and the stuff still isnt dry after nearly 24 hours.

The bits that touch the bars are drying. The rest is still damp. We don’t have a particularly damp house. Just wanted to take the pressure off the tumble drier a bit.

It’s an Aldi one and so far it’s crap.

We’ve got one and it’s brilliant. It’s like a canvas wardrobe, 6ft tall. Sock, underware, tshirts dry in an hour. A hoodie probably two hours

twiddlingthumbs69 · 07/11/2025 18:35

Really wouldn’t waste your money OP. I’ve had two, both useless. Max heat is 50 degrees I think. Takes 15 hours to dry one hand towel, I tested it! 😂

I recently bought the Minky Sure Dri air pod thing; An electric fan and a cover for my existing airer. a little less drying time than tumble drier and supposed to be much cheaper. Can also dry things that cant go in tumble drier. Really like it.

MadisonMontgomery · 07/11/2025 18:39

I’ve got a Lakeland one and tbh I think they’re a bit crap, they take forever to dry anything and it’s faffy to put stuff on. I use it a few times a year for delicates if its raining but too warm to put the heating on, but that’s it.

sweatervest · 07/11/2025 18:44

i am in love with my dry-soon one from lakeland. i've got the cover too. i've had it for over ten years (stealth boast) and i just chuck stuff on it higgeldy piggeldy at night and it's dry in the morning or whenever i can be arsed to take it off and iron it etc.

shellyleppard · 07/11/2025 18:46

I brought one with the cover but it takes forever to dry anything. Only dries the washing that touches the rails. Its now relegated to the garden shed and I'm still using the old airer lol

wheresthebollydarling · 07/11/2025 18:54

I have a John Lewis one and wouldn’t be without it. Clothes dry by the next day. No having to adjust clothes to ensure they dry, unless it’s a thick hoodie, I may sometimes have to put the hood on the bars to fully dry it. One of my favourite house purchases.

FletchFan · 07/11/2025 18:56

My Dry soon dries stuff within an hour, but then I only use it for a few jumpers here and there. Everything else goes in the tumble drier.

I have one from Dunelm. It’s a Minky one. Towels take around 2 days - you have to keep changing how they lie on the airer as the heat doesn’t circulate, it’s literally just the bars.

They do work quicker with a de-humidifier though.

I just stick it on and change things around. It won’t ever be as quick as a dryer but I don’t really mind that

That's so strange. I dry towels on the back of doors and chairs, no heating on. Dry in 12hrs.

Strangely, I was just reading another thread about heated airers yesterday and majority of people recommended the lakeland one.

I actually bought the aldi one for MIL today! I too read that they work better with the cover on and near an open window or humidifier. I'm unsure how easy it would be for MIL to put the cover on/off so we'll see if it works or not.

@Notmollybutdolly What size of dehumidifier do you all use? I'd always go for something that covers a much larger area than you have. Otherwise I find them ineffective. Also look at the size of the water collection thing. If its tiny, you'll need to empty it more often which can be a PITA too.

Dehumidifier not humidifier. 😁

DizzyBlondeMum2 · 07/11/2025 19:03

I have the Aldi one with a cover. Spacing stuff out is the key, tshirts over a bar - trousers split so one leg is over each bar. I also find putting it on for a couple of hours - then turning off e.g. over night then couple of hours the next day to finish works well. Not fast but less power for same speed. Heavy stuff like joggers and towels I tumble dry.

FallingIntoAutumn · 07/11/2025 19:06

Dehumidifier is your friend. I also put a bath airer up high on a dolly type thing precariously balancing on kitchen cupboards
that works much better. The heated airer is just an ornament in the way now

Pottersciderbar82 · 07/11/2025 19:16

Absolutely crap. One thin dry line and then wet washing for days then needing re washing as it all stinks.

Gave mine away.

I have the Lakeland one and don’t have that issue. Works extra well if you cover the whole thing with a sheet.

This! My Lakeland airer has lasted 6 years so far. It's brilliant.

BlindSpotForCats · 07/11/2025 19:20

I quite liked ours. It was fairly large and i bought it from amazon. The spiel said it cost 6 pence an hour when on.

problem is that it takes a long time and we had to be careful about the damp in the room it was in. A couple of weeks ago i started going to the laundrette 2 times a week- which as i work less than part time and the laundrette is walking distahce was doable. I think overall cheaper as well as the drying takes 20 minutes on hot and costs £2.

8TinyToeBeans · 07/11/2025 19:21

We have the Lakeland one and use it with the cover for around 5 hrs, then turn it off and take the cover off and leave it till it’s dry. Usually it’s dry the next morning. We do also have a dehumidifier running beside it to help the process and keep the room from getting too humid. It’s much faster than previous winters where we’ve just had the dehumidifier alone.

Justputsomeyoghurtonit · 07/11/2025 20:23

Put a massive sheet over the top.
It creates a warm drying room. I can have a whole load done in a day.
Towels get laid flat overnight. Again wit the sheet over.

I bought the lake land cover, it wasn't as good as the sheet.

I bought my lakeland airer in 2014 🤣

WhamBamThankU · 07/11/2025 20:39

Throw a spare double/king duvet cover over while they dry

User8008135 · 07/11/2025 21:26

I love my lakeland. I do 2 loads of clothes at a time. The real heavy hoodies I hang in the airing cupboard, everything else is on the airer with a cover on.

I finding great but it's definitely been different for me at times when someone else hangs stuff on it. When my dh first hung stuff up he put things on things, layered the up and scrunched and they took ages to dry and smelt.

DeadBee · 07/11/2025 22:05

A real mix of opinions then! 😁

It’s got a cover. The bars actually get really hot but the faffing is doing my head in. I think I’d rather pay the extra money to run the tumble dryer.

Yabu
Dehumidifiers are a better option :)

LadyWiddiothethird · 07/11/2025 22:19

I have the Lidl one, really happy with it.It is in a spare bathroom with the window open.I do have to rearrange the clothes though at regular intervals.

My tumble dryer has broken and I am seeing how I get on without one this Winter.

Burntt · 07/11/2025 22:23

I have a drysoon. I use a dehumidifier and rather than a cover I throw a sheet over the top that does the same job but dries the sheet. I may rearrange a couple times and it’s dry in 6-8 hours. Don’t use the bottom shelf except for socks and underwear. I love it
