What’s the worst credit card you’ve ever had?

Just wondering what everyone’s experience has been like. Some cards look great on the surface - decent limit, tempting offers, but then you realise the interest is insane, the customer service is useless or the app is a nightmare.

Have you ever had a credit card you absolutely regretted getting? What made it bad - hidden charges, poor service, sky-high interest?

AIBU to think some credit card companies really rely on people being too busy (or stressed) to read the fine print?

Argos Credit card.

I've never really had CC's. I had one many years ago with RBS and now recently Capital 1, Cap1 is for emergencies only and not used in 2years but when someone found my purse and decided to use the contactless they were as good as my bank to get it sorted. Interest rate is sky high but I pay off full balance where poss.

Can’t say I’ve ever had a bad one. Never paid interest because that would be a daft way of loaning money. Never had a bad experience with customer service on the rare times I’ve needed them, can mostly handle online. Fraud has been tackled quickly and easily (happened twice to us going to the States on separate occasions, just as well we didn’t use a debit card).

My Barclays card was a bit frustrating at the start as it had a sensitive fraud threshold as they got familiar with my spending, but that quickly settled down.

M&S years ago. Their interest rate was staggeringly high.

Lesson learned. Now I just use a debit card for everything except major purchases that I need to have protected.

Not a credit card but I hate Very and PayPal Credit. They make it hard to navigate I find. I love my Nectar Amex though, made £300 in nectar points this year just with normal spending (pay off in full every month)

The credit card we use is seen as temporary credit , so that when the statement comes in it is paid off . The only time that never happened was if there was an offer of 18 months 0% interest .

MBNA was the worst, in terms of customer service and interest.

Barclaycard have always been great, but my experiences with Halifax and Virgin have also been good. Almost everything easily done via apps.

I don't pay any interest on any of my balances now, and Barclaycard offer longer interest free transfers for existing customers than most other providers.

In February 2026 my Amex will become a bad one - I've had it for about 20 years and they decided to add a £35 annual fee from then, for no additional benefit to me. Given that I have never paid a penny for my credit cards i fees or interest, I am not about to start now, so it will be cancelled 31st Jan.

For various reasons (cashback offers, overseas use etc) I currently have 5 credit cards with a massive combined limit that I never get anywhere close to, so I'm not going to miss that one!

I’m always pissed off with my HSBC card when it comes to paying it! I didn’t know until my first statement arrived but apparently because I don’t have an HSBC bank account I can’t make payments through my debit card online or through the app, I have to go on and bank transfer the funds every month. It’s a minor thing but it just seems so stupid, I like getting a notification from the card saying we have received your payment rather than sending money into the ether and hoping for the best.

I had a Sainsbury’s credit card about 15 years ago now and for some reason at the end of my interest free period I was given the option to close the account with a balance and a lower interest rate than I would have if i kept the account open so that’s what i did (don’t ask why I didn’t just balance transfer to a 0% offer in another card, I was young and a bit clueless about it all). It was fine for a few months but then they blocked my online access so couldn’t make my payment. When I phoned to query it I was told I would have to call their payment line to make the monthly payment, but to do that I needed to have the credit card number. This being the credit card I had destroyed months earlier and statements I had been viewing online. It took FOREVER to get sorted and in that time I missed a payment. They did clear it from my credit record but that also took months.
