Moving to Surrey from South London

Soz not down with the lingo but in South London at the mo and our eldest has just moved from Independent school to Esher College. Initially we were looking at Esher, Cobham, Weybridge but there's a bit of a lack of the right housing stock and, more importantly, will get far more for our money in West Byfleet, Pyrford, Bookham, Fetcham, East Horsley. Had a horrid few years and want a nice big garden, easy access to the country, to escape the mayhem of London and to enjoy G&T's in the garden in summer etc with a reasonable commute into London and for our friends to visit. No doubt we'll miss London but the kids will have friends in the area due to school etc.

FYI we have got 3 teenagers - has anyone else had experience with this move, have any info or experience on living in these areas with teenaged kids etc, worked well or actually not enjoyed the move and regretted it?

TIA

You make it sound as though you're off to The Cotswolds!

The places you mention are barely outside London.

I think those areas are probably all fine. Just bear in mind that the commute to a train station can often be a bit annoying - I have friends around there and frankly, I have to drive or cab because it's a 25 minutes walk from the station. So you need to figure out what you really want to prioritise.

I underwent this move 12 years ago, but not so I could drink "G&T's" (sic) .

But yes, I'm local to the A3 / Wisley / M25 junction 10 and 11 if you want advice.

You haven't stated @Mmmhdanone what you're looking for in an area beyond the train line. Do you want shops within walking distance? Do you want semi-rural in places? Do you want proximity to the A3 or M25?

Hersham, Molesey and Hinchley wood are good places close to Esher College, and are generally less expensive than Thames Ditton, where the college is situated…

It's only a bus ride away!
