Muddy Shoes

I. Am. Fuming.

DC does an after school activity which involves being outside in mud.

I do morning school runs so I feel it is fair to take on the responsibility of making sure DC has appropriate clothing for this after school activity (wellies, outerwear, etc).

DC's dad collects them from after school club, or his parents house if he hasn't finished work in time to collect directly from school. I work late on this day.

I forgot to send DC to school with appropriate clothing. My bad.

This morning in the school rush to get out the door I go to grab DC's school shoes from the cupboard. They are full of mud and wet. There is no time to clean and dry them.

Am I being unreasonable to feel this intense anger towards DC's Dad for not cleaning them, or even bringing it to my attention?

I feel so mad! I am trying to control the passive aggressive thoughts I am having in order to make him feel my pain!! 😡😤🫨🫩🥴

How old is your DC? Are they old enough to have told you their shoes were wet and muddy?

DC is 7 and typically isn't great with communication (being assessed soon, I hope) for ADHD and Autism.

You have every right to be angry. Even if you forgot the spare shoes your ex could have at least hosed off the muddy shoes

He's not my ex (yet!) 😅

That makes more sense - I was wondering how the muddy shoes ended up in your cupboard unnoticed if you were separated and handing DC over.

Yes, you’re right to be angry. He was lazy and made it your problem. He’s the one who needs to take any bollocking from the school and apologise for DD having to go in today in trainers or whatever she has, and he needs to sort cleaning the shoes out himself.
