Can you get pregnant at 52?

Pregnantposibility · 04/11/2025 20:36

I have not had a period for 2.5 years; we use condoms but it came off while having sex. Any chance I could be pregnant? Should I get a pregnancy test just in case.

Hopefully the answer is not. As no way we want a child at this age plus all the risks it could carry.

I woukd think the chances are vanishingly slim as to be zero, especially considering you haven't had a period for over 2 years anf are officially post menopausal

Screwyoucolin · 04/11/2025 20:40

How can you have got to 52 and not know the answer to this one?!

Anewuser · 04/11/2025 20:41

My grandchild’s midwife delivered a baby to a 53 year old women in the morning - it was her third child, all under 5 years old.

MiddleAgedDread · 04/11/2025 20:41

NHS guidance is to use contraception for a year after your last period if you’re over the age of 50, or 2 years if you’re under 50 so I’d say the chances are pretty slim.

DierdreDaphne · 04/11/2025 20:42

Yes, it can happen. Very rare obviously, but the chances are not zero. I knew someone whose grandmother gave birth at 55!!!!

SusiQ18472638 · 04/11/2025 20:44

You’ve been through the menopause, you aren’t pregnant.

BallerinaRadio · 04/11/2025 20:45

The 2nd post today about being pregnant at 52 what's that all about

MeridaBrave · 04/11/2025 20:49

Seems very unlikely.

Asunciondeflata · 04/11/2025 20:51

Highly improbable

Upwiththisiwillnotput · 04/11/2025 20:53

Are you Sharon Watts? If not, then no 😆

FuzzyWolf · 04/11/2025 20:55

Has your coil been left in for too long?

The odds are tiny. Not impossible but you’re probably more likely to win the lottery.

TheAutumnalCrow · 04/11/2025 20:56

The answer’s not zero chance though. It’s very unlikely but not zero possibility assuming you’ve had PIV sex.

Before I had a gynaecology surgery the nurses tested all of us who were 60 and under. No exceptions. It was quite funny really.

soreshoulders · 04/11/2025 20:57

If you've not had a period for that long, I'd find the odds incredibly tiny. Not impossible, but almost.

She probably had help.

LaurieFairyCake · 04/11/2025 20:58

It’s probably half a million to one

if you are I’d buy a lottery ticket too Grin

when I went for the third Covid jab the chap giving it asked if there was any chance I could be pregnant. I was 62. There was a twinkle in his eye though.

Tdcp · 04/11/2025 20:59

My great aunt had a surprise baby at 53 so it can happen. Given that you haven't had a period in so long though means it's extremely unlikely.

My grandmother had one just a little younger than that. No help.

I'm early 50s and still have a period every month and ovulate each month. Considering how easily I had my others, it's not a chance I'd take! In OP's situation it seems highly unlikely, though never impossible.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 04/11/2025 21:08

You're now post-menopausal so you cannot get pregnant.

NewsdeskJC · 04/11/2025 21:17

Only on Eastenders

BadgernTheGarden · 04/11/2025 21:20

Extremely unlikely, do a test if you are worried. If you were still having periods maybe, but still very unlikely.

Doobedobe · 04/11/2025 21:20

Yes as I knoe two people who got pregnant at 52 and 53. It is possible. If you havent had a period for 2 years then it sounds unlikely though.

Maybe they were IVF

DramaAlpaca · 04/11/2025 21:22

You're over 50 and haven't had a period in over two years, which means you're officially postmenopausal and can relax and throw away the condoms.

NimbleDreamer · 04/11/2025 21:22

I'd say practically zero chance if you haven't had a period for 2 years. You are officially menopausal after not having a period for a year so you're well past that now.
