Am I too old to start gaming?

So, insights appreciated: I’ve been curious about gaming for years but have just never had a chance/opportunity to explore. I’m a boring 50 year old but think I’d really enjoy role playing games. I’m reasonably tech savvy but have no idea how to get started or what I’d really need - and there’s no-one in my environment who seems to have a clue either. I was listening to a recent podcast about various games and Expedition 33 appealed.
So (1) am I being unreasonable to think I could get into gaming and (2) if not, where the hell would I start?

Thanks for any advice and suggestions!

You are absolutely not too old! I used to play an online game maybe 10 years or so ago now and there was an American woman in her 80s who played! Have fun!!

Go onto the website Steam and look at their selection.

Epic Games is another one worth looking at, as they have a free game of the week every Thursday which remains free for the whole week. Once you've "bought" it for free, you can keep it for life (well, as long as the platform exists I suppose!)

Both Steam and Epic have a computer application which you can use to organise and browse games you've bought as well as new games from their relevant stores.

There are also lots of websites with game reviews, like Rock Paper Shotgun.

Oh - meant to say - with things like Steam, you can put in a game you've played and enjoyed or like the sound of, and it will suggest other games that people who play this game also enjoy, which is helpful because not everyone likes the same games. I would guess you can also probably input your computer spec and it won't show you things that are too intensive for your computer to run.

For example DH used to be really into WoW - I have never enjoyed it because I find it too repetitive and boring. He likes the social aspect to it.
