I genuinely thought it was about an abusive dad or a murderous son at first! So intense……

I think it’s great and a really uplifting ad.T no ode of us with older kids will find it particularly so. Christmas is about giving and love. Who says it has to be about smalz, tat and excess?

Exactly. That stuff can be a bit fake sometimes. This is so real and sweet.

Oh I'm sure that's true - but in the context of contemporary British English 'gifting' is an ABOMINATION (and just naff, really).

Aye. What’s wrong with ‘giving’ ffs?

It might have provoked a reaction. I would still never shop in John Lewis though. I don't know anyone who does. Overrated and overpriced, like Waitrose and Marks & Spencer.

But what exactly is overpriced? Do you mean their overall offering? Their beauty, clothing, home wares etc are all competitively priced. Though I suppose it you’re comparing to Asda or similar then I guess it is expensive 🤷🏿‍♀️

Exactly. JL sales are amazing. I bought a cashmere jumper for £19 in January, they’ve restored their price match policy as well.

An advert for JL came up on my Facebook that was for some toddler pyjamas that were about £130 😂

They start at £8.

I know 😂
I just thought it seemed crazy as they're for toddlers who are going to probably piddle on them.

Are you sure? On their website the most expensive toddler pyjamas they have are around 80. Which is still way more than I’d pay for something that you quite rightly say is going to get bodily fluids on but not quite as extreme as 130.

They were designer ones I think.
Stella McCartney possibly??
I was too busy laughing about it to pay much attention 😂
(I only seem to be getting JL adverts on Facebook since I joined this thread 🤔🤔)

They did very well that first year with the little boy who had gifts he couldn't wait to give, and it's just got crapper and crapper ever since.

This was my absolute favourite and it hardly ever gets mentioned.

I remember lots of piss taking about it at t(e time though - including suggestions that it might be a severed head in the box…

Every man i talk to at work gets the advert most of the women dont.

And like that it just shows by your responses, the continuous attack 'white man bad" has worked. You CANT understand something that ractualy represents the country. Men with kids understand this advert. It DOSNT tick all the gay, black, non white family, boxes for a change.

Yes, finally, some representation for the straight white middle-aged man!

Who probably only go in John Lewis when their wives drag them in 😂😂

Unlike the 2022 John Lewis Christmas ad which was focused on....a white straight man and building a bond with a white foster child.

We get it we just weren't moved. It doesn't represent middle-aged white men in a good light at all he just looked like a moody sod. Yet the men are all patting themselves on the back saying "well done to all the brilliant dads out there" and it's like "based on this ad?" It's like now I understand what other women mean when they say the bar is so low for men/dads. I'm glad men are finally finding something that resonates with them though.

EmeraldRoulette · 11/11/2025 22:06

This is such an excellent advert

And it works on so many levels 🥰

I never really think much about Christmas adverts, but this is fantastic!

Edited

Actually that does make me very nostalgic for my dad’s works christmas parties in the 80s! 🤣

If DS bought me that for christmas I would think it was hilarious. And I’d be far more impressed with his crate-digging skills, I can't imagine there are many copies of that still lurking in the 50p bargain racks.
