It’s happened to me, I got a payout and a better job, but was hugely stressful period and impacted my mental health.

Sadly it’s quite common in the private sector now.

Five years ago took voluntary redundancy from job in media (newspapers) now working in different media (radio) … never a dull moment, so glad I made the change, I was late 40s at the time

er, what?

people have different situations. unfortunately I know 2 people who were made redundant in Jan 2025 who took 9/10 months to find alternative employment- one less well paid and one the same.

I think most people get made redundant a few times in their career.

I was made redundant in 2023 and am now much better off, but had a horrible (but better paid) role in the interim
