To have seen the same music artist 20 times

I have loved a particular artist since they started making music and seen them perform approximately annually. I absolutely love their music and the joy of dancing and singing along to it.

A friend pointed out to me that this was odd, because most people would see an artist that they liked, then that be it... Sort of "been there - done that - got the t-shirt - no need to see them again".

I don't go on more than one date of the same tour, nor do I hang out trying to meet the artist - I just really enjoy their shows. They are the only artist I do this for. I have seen many other artists just the once.

Is it unusual for people to repeatedly see the same artist year after year? I have never thought anything of it, so thought I'd see if iabu to think it's not that odd!

Yabu - it is odd
Yanbu - many people see artists perform year after year and that's just part of them having a fan base

I’ve seen my favourite artist maybe 15-17 times. And many others I’ve seen 5,6,7 times. Not odd at all. There’s not too much joy in the world that you should turn down a chance to get that feeling op.

My god, if you like them and can afford it, I can’t see why anyone would have an ‘opinion’ about this.

cheesychipsontheoche · 02/11/2025 17:38

I’ve seen my favourite singer over 100 times, plenty of bands over 20 times, even did an entire uk tour of one artist in pre-child days. Gigs are my hobby though.
I think with live music you get some people who treat it like a theatre show or tv show and some who get immersed in the whole experience and chase that high

Ok. So we're supposed to do the things we love once and that's it?

Daft

You listen to the album as many times as you like, eh? Why can you not see it live as many times as you like.

Ffs... Weirdo (them, not you)

I've seen one band lots of times. A few others about 5 times each. Has to be a good concert for me to go back not just because I love the music.

clarepetal · 02/11/2025 18:28

There is a band I reckon I've seen about 10 times as they are great live. I'd happily see them again.
I don't think you are weird.

So glad to hear there are like-minded folk out there!! I wasn't bothered that my friend thought that - it was just a surprise, as I felt it was quite normal to see an artist often!

I've seen foo fighters more than 20 times over 29 years. Not even once a year (apart from the year i saw them 3 times in a week!) Why wouldn't you go and see your favourite artist again and again?

AngelsWithSilverWings · 02/11/2025 20:01

Seen my favourite band around 18 times - often I go twice on the same tour. They have been going since 1981 and I first saw them live in 1986 so it has been over a very lung time!

I've seen quite a few artists multiple times. I've seen U2 three times in three different countries.

Voting is tricky, as, personally, I do think it is odd, but I don't think that make you unreasonable if it makes you happy.
Personally, I'd rather see different people, or spend my money on other things. There are people / groups I've seen more than once, but 20 times comes across as being a bit odd to me but I'm fairly sure that I do things in my life that you wouldn't see the appeal of.
We're all different.

My DH has seen Iron Maiden 42 times. Not a typo!

Muffsies · 02/11/2025 21:35

I've probably been to see The Damned that many times, but they have been performing since 1977.

I see loads of bands that many times. And I will go to as many nights of the same tour as I can. It’s my hobby and enjoyment in life. I go most weeks. Had an amazing night last night and will go to any of their next tour dates that I can get to.

it’s not a thing where you see something and then you’ve seen it and don’t go back. That’s odd. If someone goes to an amazing restaurant and had the best food and atmosphere would they never go again?

I also go to the theatre most weeks and often see the same show many times over.

but back to the bands- I’ve followed some for 40 years. But I also see loads of new bands.
