To live next door to a b&b?

So I want to keep this as less outing as possible
But we are a Muslim mix raced family living in the most beautiful village in Sussex.
Kids haven't really found "friends" but they are happy enough
My children are 3,5,9

An opportunity has arrived to do a mutual exchange back to a place near Heathrow, it isn't the greatest but it's "home"

Ironically my husband is less enthusiastic as such to move to that particular house as it's rear parking backs onto an alleyway adjacent to takeaway shops, it's terraced (we are semi detached)

I was willing to sacrifice quite a lot due to cultural upbringing, close to family etc and a proximity to central London where I travel weekly.

But it's come to our knowledge yesterday that the house next door (terraced) so we share a wall.. is actually a B&B landlord rents the upstairs out nightly and the reviews are hideous. I asked the lady months ago how were the neighbours and she never disclosed this information

My family (who don't live in London) already thinks I'm being stupid to be considering it even before the b&b news but maybe I have rose tinted glasses about being somewhere familiar again with my family and friends?!

Maybe not a AIBU but what are your experiences of living next door to a b&b in terraced housing?

Can you stay in the B&B overnight to get an idea of what the set up there is like?

I think one room being rented out is different to a dozen or so.

It's 3 rooms upstairs
And I was thinking that Blush

No personal experience, but I would not like having a stream of random people (mostly men) next door if I had young children.

How could she answer it though if there's a constant stream of neighbours in and out?

My only 'experience' of this sort of thing was when my best friend rented a house next door to a B&B.

Two lockdowns nearly put it out of business so the owners did a deal with the local council, who ended up housing the most horrendously loud junkies and drinkers who made hers and the other neighbours lives a total misery.

If the reviews are bad that would worry me. I would also want to know if the B&B was used for 'general public' visitors or whether it is used by the council for emergency homeless accommodation, as some users will have problems with drinks, drugs and mental health, and may be noisy or problematic neighbours.

Why did you move to Sussex in the first place? I lived in one of the villages near Heathrow and still have family there who I love to visit. I wouldn’t give up more rural living to go back though.

Advertised on booking etc as a Heathrow stay over. The landlord lives downstairs and rents out the top 3 rooms nightly

Anymore opinions?

It doesn't sound ideal. Wait for another opportunity.

Aligirlbear · 14/11/2025 07:19

Personally would be a no for me. A constant stream of different people coming and going at all hours if staying for flights at Heathrow some will be considerate and others won’t. Also likely to be issues with parking if 3 rooms are let out. I would wait for another opportunity.

CoastalCalm · 14/11/2025 07:22

A no for me , there will be taxis coming and going at all times with people dragging luggage around etc.

Sidebeforeself · 14/11/2025 07:27

God no. We had an ABnB next door to us. Whilst we didn’t suffer too badly it was definitely an intrusion. People knocking on our door asking questions, trying to get in our door instead of the correct one, using our bins , blocking us in etc. People just don’t care about the neighbours when they are never going to see them again
