AIBU to expect poo to be scooped from little box?

For context i am pregnant so not something i can do myself.

Cat must have pooped in her litter box at some point this evening, i just spotted it now at around 10pm and got a little bag ready to hand to my husband. He says " I know its there, i will do it in the morning"

AIBU to think that this is disgusting?? Theres a poo in the litter box, she might want to use it and he will "do it in the morning" because he can't be bothered to do it now

You're not unreasonable and he is lazy. My parents sort out their cat's litter in the morning, at lunch and in the evening. Three times a day. Whether it's been used or not, they check.

minipie · 01/11/2025 22:31

Cats hate using a dirty litter box so if it isn’t cleaned, he may find the next poo or wee is on the floor or rug.

LadyTable · 01/11/2025 22:31

I'd just stick a pair of gloves on and scoop it myself.

Gross to leave it until tomorrow.

This. My cat refuses to use an dirty little tray. She has three. If they are not empty ahe wil poo on the floor. No shits given. Except the one on the floor… She wont even poo in a tray she has just peed in. Her name is Princess…

He has thankfully now done it after me pleading with him 😒

Thank you for the replies, i will show him in the morning in the hope he actually realises why its gross to leave it!

As others say - cats are super clean and really don't like going 'on' a spoiled area and will definitely use the floor instead!

TalulahJP · 01/11/2025 23:03

Agree with the others.

Mine would shout at me to clean it or go somewhere else to pee, which obviously isn’t what I want.

So I am now trained by her to clean it as soon as she walks out of it.

If your partner is this lazy with a cat it doesnt bode well from when a baby nappy is needing attention…..that good youve youve persuaded him to crack on.

You could do it yourself if you wore a disposable plastic glove. I use sandwich bags instead of dog poo bags as they are thicker.

Unless it's his cat, you should both be doing it!

What would happen if you were home alone?

BeastAngelMadwoman · 01/11/2025 23:41

I lived alone throughout my first pregnancy so had no choice but to sort the litter tray myself. Be careful doing it and wash hands thoroughly afterwards and there really is no problem.

showyourquality · 01/11/2025 23:43

If he won’t clean it get an automatic box, honestly I would get one anyway if you are having a dc. The litter tray is automatically cleaned each time it is used and the waste put into a rubbish bag inside a sealed bin, so dc can’t access it. You can then clean out the bin bag when you want to.

JohnTheRevelator · 01/11/2025 23:44

Yuk. I remove poo from my cat's litter box as soon as possible otherwise it stinks the place out!

My cat is the same. She will not poo in the litter box if it already has a poo in it. And she sometimes won't poo in it if there's a wee in it. If I've been out for a few hours and this has happened,I come home to find the poo on the floor next to the litter box.

@LadyTable OP is Pregnant so there is a risk of toxoplasmosis from the cats poo.

I know that.

Which is why people wear rubber gloves.

She'd have more chance catching it from stroking the cat with her bare hands after it's just poo'd, than she would from scooping out a poo while wearing gloves.

Thanks everyone for the validation haha - He definitely needs a kick up the bum with the litter maintenance!!!

P.s Whilst he may be lazy with the litter box occasionally (our cat is in and out cat so she will only really use litter box occasionally), he is a fantastic 50:50 partner to our kids and definitely changes his fair share of nappies haha!

@Timetotryagain

yep despite the NHS advice to avoid cat poo when pregnant there’s always the armchair bacteriologist who will disagree isn’t there. Good luck with your baby OP and yeah avoid the shitter tray -you know it makes sense ❤️

Rubber gloves?

Do they not sell litter box scoops in the UK?

I'm pretty sure you know they do?

However, wearing rubber gloves while using the scoop would be more sensible for a pregnant woman.

Then why don’t you ditch the litter tray altogether?

Just put on rubber gloves and do it yourself?

Bitzee · 02/11/2025 21:03

Get a litter robot!!!

But also yes he should do it, it’s grim AF to leave it and risks the cat protest popping elsewhere. And yes sticking the rubber gloves on might be a needs must if you were on your own but a pregnant woman shouldn’t be touching the litter when there’s another capable adult in the house.
