To urge you to complain about Sam and Cat on CBBC?

Was really shocked to see this on iPlayer this morning. Possibly they’ve been showing it for some time, I may be late to the party.

Ive read Jeanette Mcurdys memoir about this show specifically but I thought the actions of Dan Schneider, the exploitative practices of Nickelodeon (and kids tv in general in the 90s) and the rampant sexual abuse was common knowledge. 2 people have been/are behind bars!

Ive complained to the BBC about its inclusion in children’s programming and ask anyone who feels the same to do so as well. I really strongly feel the BBC can’t just pick up any only successful show on the basis “the kids like it” - there has to be a clear message that studios that not only do not safeguard their child actors but actively put in harms way cannot continue to be successful just because it was a long time ago. I do not believe these practices have been ‘stamped out’ by any means.

If you are complaining I found ChatGPT really useful. I know people have environmental concerns (and I have never actually used it before) but it was able to bring up examples of BBC policies and excepts from mcurdys memoir for me to use.

I had no idea objecting to child abuse was so controversial.

Again I don’t think ‘but there are other bad shows’ is relevant. Yes there are. This happens to be one I am objecting to.

The vast majority of the world objects to child abuse, that's not controversial.

What is controversial is calling for a load of people to make complaints to get this taken off air, when the actual victims haven't asked for this, and you haven't even backed up your own stance by cancelling your licence. Its all a bit performative imo.

Surely then Schneider and nikelodeon are also getting paid which they shouldn’t be.

Well, they should be because that's how IP laws work.

Loved watching Sam and Cat when my daughter was younger. Ariana Grande fabulous in it, long before she became really famous.
Cat's beloved Nonna Lived in 'Elderly Acres' - a name we still use (affectionately) for any old people's home.

Ths is a nonsense comment

Is abuse happening now on this programme development or has the programme stopped being made?

If the programme is no longer being made and these programmes are from years ago, what use is it to stop watching or boycott it?

If the programme was still being made and its own actors were being exploirted and treated badly and abused and crimes were being committed well thats a different matter.

By listening to Michael Jackson, is that showing support for child abuse?
Same question about Led Zepplin and Bowie? Iggy Pop?

Babe-raham Lincoln still raises a laugh in the FKAT household. Both AG and JM are so talented - brilliant comedy actors.

It's Jennette McCurdy. If you're going to take a stand then please spell her name correctly.

MonteStory · 01/11/2025 20:35

Perhaps I haven’t explained myself clearly. It’s because the show has been so publicly discussed that I think it’s an issue. It’s like the BBC saying ‘yeah we know about all that but we don’t really care’. They didn’t carry the program before all this came out so why pick it up now?

If you don’t think it’s worth complaining about then by all means don’t.

As I say I wasn’t really expecting this to be a controversial point, I didn’t start a thread for an argument, just to see if anyone felt the same and might be willing to complain.

I think it's well established the BBC do not care about sheltering child abusers, making money from child abusers, child exploitation and child grooming. They have a paedophile's statue outside their HQ. They are the home of Savile. They have given voice, employment and shelter to a whole range of abusive paedophiliac men. They make documentaries telling children there are 59 genders and if you're a girl who likes trousers you should think about taking hormones and cutting off your tits.

This is not even the 1000th most paedophile enabling thing the BBC will have done this year.

I deal with it by not giving them any money.
