Just posting to see if anyone has had similar my 14 year old noticed a little lump on his upper arm, about 3 weeks ago, we went to GP who said swollen lymph node, he had just had a cold appear aswell, she said probably the cause, its been 3 weeks and its still there not bigger but still there, probably size of a pea, we have a follow up appointment on monday, im just getting concerned, weird place for a swollen lymph node to even be in the first place, has anyone else had anything similar?

The reality is that it could be something and it could be nothing. My husband had a swollen lymph node in his groin for a while. It was checked out and was nothing. My mum gets them regularly due to some genetic issue. On the other hand my SIL had a host of them around her chest and that was something more. She was also getting night sweats. I’m no doctor but the fact it’s a single lump would suggest it’s nothing like my SIL (who was treated and is very well now).

I appreciate your reply, im so glad your SIL is well now, Im just worrying as GP said they normally go down in a few weeks on there own and its been nearly 3 weeks and irs still there, instinct is panic.

There’s not really a “weird place” for a swollen lymph node - they are all over our bodies but those nearest the surface will be more evident when swollen.

Lymph nodes wouldn’t normally be painful/noticeable but their job is literally to “catch” infection (bacteria) so they become inflamed/swollen and painful. I remember as a teenager getting an infected ear piercing (my friend did it with an ice cube and needle) and I had a swollen lymph node at the back of my ear for weeks.

There are lots of bugs and viruses going around at the moment so he could be getting infected and reinfected which could mean a lymph node staying quite inflamed for a time.

In the absence of any other symptoms it will likely be nothing but good to be getting it followed up.
