to be super-pi**ed off with a work colleague

Right. What has happened is we are really, really, really under-staffed at the moment, with effectively no management (apart from the Global head who comes over from head office in another country every couple of weeks) until the end of June. Naturally, we have all been pulling together to get through. Apart from one colleague who keeps on taking days to work from home, without any work actually being produced. Last week, he "worked from home" on wednesday, and then said that his cousin died, so was incontactable all day. Fine, in the circumstances, that's understandable. Then he was "working from home" the next day. Monday, he told us all about how he'd had a great night at the pub on Thursday. Wednesday this week, he'd forgotten that his son was going to the orthodontist, so couldn't come in. Conveniently, he was in yesterday when the big cheese was over, but today: "working from home". He used to do this all the time, but stopped after having a good talking to. Now that there's no management in place, he's taking the piss. It's so unfair on everyone else. Also, his DP works part-time: why doesn't she ever do this stuff? It's so unfair, is abusing a privilege that we're given. GRRRRRR!!!

YANBU

He must be accountable to someone in your work place.

It shouldn't be left upto the staff to deal with his bad work ethic. Is there no-one you can talk to about this?

Well, not until the new boss comes in. We've now just redirected all calls from his work phone to his mobile and have sent lots of emails telling him to get on with it already.

I think it just drives me absolutely up the wall as I cannot comprehend this lack of work ethic or consideration, particularly in light of current circumstances. We should all be pulling together as a team to try and get through these next couple of weeks.

Well, personally I would have fired him months ago, he's useless.
