So for starters I have been ill with the flu all week and my son has now come down with it, not stopped coughing, sore throat etc. my eldest who is 8 is terrified of Halloween and will not even walk past the Halloween isle in the supermarket. AIBU to give is a miss?

Why would you go given your circumstances? It's not compulsory.

TheNightingalesStarling · 31/10/2025 14:50

So one child is too ill and other doesn't want to?
Stay at home and do something you do enjoy.

Financialthymes · 31/10/2025 14:50

You’ve answered your own question OP. You’re sick, your child is sick and your other child hates Halloween. I can’t imagine you’d have fun even if you did manage to get out. Maybe have a movie night instead? Or just an early night! Save yourselves for bonfire night instead if that’s more your thing. Feel better soon.

ilovesooty · 31/10/2025 14:51

It doesn't sound as though any of you would enjoy it much.

notacooldad · 31/10/2025 14:51

I never took mine and I wasnt sick.

Moonnstars · 31/10/2025 14:52

Doesn't sound like any of you are up for it, it's not compulsory and I only do it for the kids so if yours aren't well or interested then I would be glad to avoid it.

x2boys · 31/10/2025 14:54

Of course not ,it's not compulsory and it doesn't sound like any of you would enjoy it

ShesTheAlbatross · 31/10/2025 14:55

One child is ill and the other hates Halloween? I can’t imagine why it would cross your mind to go. Why on earth would it be unreasonable to not make your 8 year old do a completely optional activity that he’s terrified of?

user2848502016 · 31/10/2025 15:09

Do you have other DC apart from these two? I don’t know why you’d consider taking a sick child or a child that doesn’t even want to go out especially when you have flu yourself.
Turn all the lights off and don’t bother with answering the door.

Catpiece · 31/10/2025 15:11

You won’t get into trouble if you don’t go. The courts won’t put out a warrant.

coxesorangepippin · 31/10/2025 15:29

Don't bother

orangepumpkinjj · 31/10/2025 15:32

im not sure why you are asking, you said your child doesn’t like Halloween so why would you take them?

StripyHorse · 31/10/2025 15:34

We never took ours. We did do Halloween stuff sometimes like watching films or playing daft games, baking etc. There are no rules, do something you all want to do.

PastaAllaNorma · 31/10/2025 15:49

You understand it's not compulsory, don't you? Do it if you want, don't if you don't. You don't need anyone's permission.
