Fireworks every night for weeks? My poor dog.

My Dog is becoming increasingly terrified of fireworks- she’s 10 years old and it seems to be far worse this year. They started around ten days ago, every evening from around 5pm till late. I know it’s Diwali which I understand and adore the celebrations, but it’s every single night for weeks and my dog has started shaking, tail between legs, not wanting to go out for evening walks (when she needs to relieve herself) upset tummy and nightmares! I feel like it’s gone from a few nights at this time of year to the whole of October and November for guy fawkes (and then December and New years). It’s so upsetting to see my normally confident dog become anxious. I’m not sure if it’s just my city but the fireworks are really on the increase. Anyone else?

Some countries including the Neverlands have banned personal use of loud fireworks.
Silent fireworks are becoming more popular and available.

Exactly - even supermarkets sell them nowadays. I think the ideal would be quiet fireworks in licensed displays only. Plenty of beautiful lights, no racket.

My cousins dog is scared, the vet has recommended this. She has tested it out, dog was calm.

After being at an amateur display as a child where one toppled and went towards the crowd Ive always hated them. I dont know why theyre so easily available.

I'm pretty sure I remember Blue Peter giving safety advice and how to roll someone on the ground if their clothes caught fire. I mean FFS, are they really worth it?

Just have a bonfire. I also hate how it now seems to be "fireworks night" not about Guy Fawkes.

I’ve just got a prescription from the vet for sileo for my 2 dogs. Will be using tonight as it’s our villages display.

Op, someone mentioned their own anxiety about their dog becoming scared. I always tried hard not to show this but it is difficult, also I resisted making eye contact when the bangs went off but carried on singing/ muttering so as not to alert my darling timid little chap that I thought that there was anything scary.
Hope you will both be ok x

Whether on the increase or not, I agree with you OP about the number of days. As with so many other celebrations or events that are one day, extending into a week or longer. Think Halloween as an example, or people who refer to a 'birthday week'.

I'd support designated days (so one for Diwali, November 5th and the Saturday nearest, New Year's eve and perhaps some others) and organised displays only.

It's not just domestic pets that suffer, farm animals and humans with some neurodiversities.
